Position: Engineering Technician

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Type: 3-Month Contract to Hire


About the Role: Our client is seeking a skilled Engineering Technician to join our Vehicle Test Engineering Team in Palo Alto. This role involves working directly with our design teams on high voltage and low voltage projects, including HV distribution, charge points, PCS (Power Conversion Systems), and battery devices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • High Voltage Electrical Knowledge: Implement safety protocols like LOTO, PPE, verifying insulation, checking continuity, and ensuring systems are de-energized.
  • Electrical Troubleshooting: Systematically troubleshoot high-voltage battery systems, verifying power supply, inspecting fuses, and using multimeters to check continuity and resistance.
  • Mechanical Knowledge: Fabricate custom test setups using 80/20 framing and machine shop tools. Build test rigs, mounting assemblies, and custom enclosures.
  • Instrumentation and DAQ: Troubleshoot thermocouples, check connections, swap sensors, and verify DAQ system settings.
  • Reliability Testing: Operate environmental chambers, recirculating chillers, and custom test rigs. Run endurance, vibration, and environmental tests.
  • Python or LabView Proficiency: Use Python or LabView for automation, data logging, and test analysis.
  • CAD/SolidWorks and Rapid Prototyping: Design test fixtures or components using SolidWorks or CAD software and utilize 3D printing for rapid prototyping.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with power electronics, EV power conversion systems, EV charge handles/cables, HV battery devices, and HV battery electronics testing.
  • Strong knowledge of high voltage electrical systems and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting and mechanical fabrication.
  • Familiarity with DAQ systems, environmental chambers, and cooling systems.
  • Experience with Jira for ticket management.
  • Background in robotics or mechanical engineering.
  • Proficiency in Python, LabView, SolidWorks, or CAD software.

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Review and manage Jira tickets.
  • Build fixtures for environmental chambers using 80/20 framing.
  • Conduct high voltage testing and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with design teams to support various high voltage programs.
