Project Engineer - Defense Industry
Job Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for leading technical aspects of defense projects, from conception to completion, ensuring alignment with technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, to drive project success. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in engineering within the defense industry and is adept at managing complex, multidisciplinary projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning and Design:
- Lead the development of technical project plans, defining scope, objectives, milestones, and deliverables.
- Participate in design and development activities, ensuring solutions meet all technical, performance, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with design engineers to develop, review, and finalize engineering specifications and drawings.
- Technical Oversight and Problem Solving:
- Oversee the engineering activities within the project, providing technical direction and expertise.
- Identify and address technical issues or obstacles, ensuring timely resolution to maintain project schedules.
- Conduct technical assessments and analyses, using engineering principles to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and testing teams to ensure smooth project execution.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of components and materials meeting project specifications.
- Participate in regular project reviews, both internally and with clients, providing updates on technical progress and challenges.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including specifications, drawings, test plans, and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure all project work complies with industry standards and regulatory requirements, including DoD, ITAR, and other defense-specific regulations.
- Support audits and inspections, addressing any compliance concerns related to engineering activities.
- Testing and Validation:
- Oversee product testing and validation processes, ensuring project deliverables meet performance and quality standards.
- Work with quality assurance and testing teams to identify areas of improvement and implement necessary changes.
- Risk Management and Continuous Improvement:
- Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and adjust project plans as needed to address technical risks.
- Contribute to process improvements, sharing lessons learned to improve future project efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related field)
- Experience: 3-5 years in project engineering within the defense or aerospace industry is a plus.
- Certifications: CAPM or PMP a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and technical knowledge across engineering disciplines.
- Proficient in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project) is a plus.
- Familiarity with defense industry standards and regulations, including DoD, ITAR, and export controls.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
