We are seeking an innovative and detail-oriented engineer to design and develop advanced fiber optic connectors, focusing on performance, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency. The role involves working with various materials such as plastic injection molded parts, machined components, and 3D printed prototypes to create connectors that enhance optical performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop fiber optic connectors and their individual components.
- Support product improvement initiatives and projects as required.
- Optimize designs through Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Tolerance analysis.
- Gain expertise in injection molding materials used in our products.
- Collaborate with engineers to provide feedback and assist with product design iterations.
- Work alongside R&D technicians to carry out testing, analysis, and documentation of projects.
- Train technicians on processes and equipment when necessary.
- Communicate project progress regularly through meetings, reports, and presentations.
- Offer technical support to product managers, sales, and manufacturing teams.
- Prepare conference papers on emerging technologies or products.
- Maintain documentation for potential patent submissions.
Equipment You Will Use:
- Precision gauging equipment such as calipers and micrometers.
- Vision measurement systems and microscopes.
- PC with MS Office software.
Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering discipline (Mechanical Engineering preferred).
- 3-5 years of experience in the fiber optic industry or communications systems (including cooperative education programs).
- Strong understanding of fiber optic assemblies, connectors, and testing processes.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with a focus on clear and concise idea delivery.
- Ability to evaluate customer needs, functional criteria, and testing outcomes.
- Basic proficiency with MS Office tools.
- Experience with CAD software.
- Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a plus.
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is preferred.
