Location: Houston (in office only, no remote working)
Duration: 6-8 months (contract to possible perm conversion)

Position Overview:
This full-time office-based role (telework is not available) requires a Senior Structural Engineer to independently lead engineering tasks within a global business unit. The role demands sound judgment in selecting and applying engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, with a focus on developing innovative solutions to complex problems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate detailed engineering phases for a global business unit, typically in one discipline, as part of a project or team.
- Handle tasks that require conventional engineering practices, addressing complex issues like conflicting design needs, material suitability, and challenging coordination requirements.
- Utilize company-standard software and relevant 2D and 3D computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering (CAE) tools for project execution.
- Lead the preparation, coordination, or development of equipment specifications, bid evaluations, and award recommendations.
- Coordinate engineering efforts across various specialties, including collaborating with clients, suppliers, contractors, and other internal departments.
- Ensure technical alignment with other teams on key project issues, including constructability requirements and reviews.
- Take responsibility for planning and executing independent work that requires expertise in adapting engineering methods and techniques.
- Develop and introduce new problem-solving approaches.
- Assume a leadership role for specific tasks when assigned, mentoring other engineers or project subgroups.
- Contribute to on-the-job training for team members and provide input for their performance assessments.
- Draft communications to vendors and clients as needed.
- Review and analyze bids, offering recommendations where necessary.
- Assist in the creation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, and proposals.
- Participate in problem analysis and design tasks.
- Contribute to the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and staffing requirements for proposals and change orders.
- Review the work of junior engineers to ensure quality and consistency.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
- In-depth understanding of engineering techniques, system design, and engineering calculations.
- Familiarity with Engineering Department Procedures, company design guides, and applicable industry standards.
- Strong grasp of plant constructability and construction methods and materials.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering and design software, including CAD (2D and 3D) and CAE tools.
- Solid understanding of engineering planning and control, including computerized methods.
- Awareness of the roles and contributions of other departments in project work, including construction practices and cost considerations.
- Familiarity with regulatory codes, industry standards, and design criteria specific to the engineering discipline.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Job Dimensions:
Supervision:
- Works independently with general direction on expected outcomes.
- Receives guidance from senior specialists or supervisors on complex issues, and supervisory approval for project plans.
Supervision of Others:
- Provides technical leadership and delegates tasks to subordinate engineers, designers, and other support staff.

- Engages independently with vendors, field personnel, and clients to exchange information as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related scientific discipline from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in structural engineering.
- Professional engineer (PE) license in the appropriate discipline.
- Sufficient specialized training in engineering principles to meet the role's needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following areas:
- Natural gas processing, including liquefaction and regasification.
- Coal, gas, or biomass-to-chemicals (e.g., methanol, ammonia).
- Petrochemical plants (e.g., HDPE, LDPE, MEG, PET, PTA, PVC).
- Carbon capture and sequestration technologies.
- Solar and combined cycle power plants.
- Hydrogen value chain, including reforming, liquefaction, and fueling stations.
- Offshore and onshore pipelines.
- Desalination and water treatment facilities.
- Familiarity with current industry process technologies and licensors.
Additional Qualifications:
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices within the specialty, along with related technical areas.
- Ability to independently execute standard engineering activities on projects of moderate complexity with minimal oversight.
