About the Role As an NGS DNA Analyst, you will play a critical role in Othram's forensic laboratory by preparing DNA extracts for sequencing, performing next-generation DNA sequencing (NGS), and maintaining the highest quality standards. Your expertise will directly contribute to solving challenging forensic cases and delivering justice.
What You Get to Do Every Day - Adhere to ISO 17025 requirements, safety protocols, and SOPs.
- Perform DNA quantitation, library preparation, and QC assays.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance.
- Participate in the development, validation, and implementation of new analytical techniques.
- Maintain the chain of custody for evidence and monitor laboratory inventory.
- Provide expert witness testimony in court, if required.
- Assist in the maintenance of laboratory supplies and reagents.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Othram's mission.
What You Bring to the Role Required Competencies and Experience:
NGS Analyst I:
- Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, forensic sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related field.
- A minimum of 1+ years of laboratory experience in NGS sequencing and/or library preparation.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
NGS Analyst II:
- All qualifications for NGS Analyst I, plus:
- A minimum of 3+ years of laboratory experience in NGS sequencing and/or library preparation.
NGS Analyst III:
- All qualifications for NGS Analyst I, plus:
- A minimum of 6+ years of laboratory experience in NGS sequencing and/or library preparation.
- A graduate degree can replace up to 2 years of laboratory experience.

Work Conditions and Requirements - Physical presence at Othram’s laboratory facilities in The Woodlands, TX during business hours, Monday through Friday.
- Work is performed in a laboratory with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- Requires standing, repetitive motions (e.g., pipetting), and lifting up to 75 pounds.
- Occasional long hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as domestic travel, may be required.
- May require reading/viewing potentially disturbing case file materials and presenting findings in a courtroom setting.
