Position overview:
The Buyer/Planner is responsible for procuring raw materials, equipment, and supplies for plant operations and planning maintenance schedules. Responsibilities for this role include managing inventory, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring timely deliveries to meet production needs. This role involves developing maintenance plans based on preventive and predictive data and collaborating with production, maintenance, and accounting to ensure smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing:
- Source and purchase raw materials, chemicals, spare parts, and equipment for production and maintenance.
- Negotiate with suppliers for competitive pricing, favorable terms, and timely deliveries.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and hazardous materials regulations.
Planning & Scheduling (Production and Maintenance):
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure timely material availability and effective maintenance scheduling.
- Communicate with maintenance personnel to enhance future maintenance activities.
- Balance maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and prioritize critical repairs.
- Monitor equipment availability and schedule maintenance to avoid production disruptions.
Work Order Management:
- Manage the creation, tracking, and completion of maintenance work orders.
- Ensure the availability of spare parts and materials for work orders, coordinating purchases as needed.
- Provide updates on work order status and potential delays to stakeholders.
Inventory & Spare Parts Management:
- Maintain accurate inventory levels of raw materials, chemicals, and spare parts to meet demands.
- Implement inventory control strategies to reduce excess stock and ensure critical spare availability.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to stock essential spare parts based on equipment criticality.
- Plan for reliability improvement projects to enhance efficiency and system performance.
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain supplier relationships to ensure reliable delivery and service.
- Monitor supplier performance, addressing quality, delivery, or pricing issues as needed.
- Conduct audits and reviews for ongoing compliance with plant requirements.
Cost Control & Budgeting:
- Track procurement and maintenance expenditures within budget constraints.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives for production and maintenance materials.
- Provide material cost forecasts and collaborate with finance for future purchasing strategies.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records for purchasing, inventory, and work orders.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Coordinate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to align procurement and planning with operational needs.
- Communicate changes in material availability and maintenance schedules to relevant departments.
- Serve as a liaison between procurement, maintenance, and production for smooth operational flow.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: 3-5 years in procurement, planning, or supply chain roles, preferably in chemical manufacturing. Experience in maintenance planning and work order management is a plus.
Skills
- Knowledge of maintenance planning, work order management, and spare parts inventory.
- Proficient in ERP and maintenance management software.
- Strong organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Familiarity with chemical industry regulations, safety requirements, and hazardous materials handling.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with maintenance management systems (e.g., CMMS) and SAP.
- APICS certification (CPIM) or similar.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and equipment reliability strategies.
