CAD Designer - VDC
The VDC modeler will design electrical layouts, create and place annotations, manage sheets and revisions, plotting, and export views and sheets.
What you’ll do:
- Layout of Electrical Systems
- Create electrical room layouts
- Develop homerun schedules and layouts
- Review single line / riser drawings
- Design large conduits & all raceways for power and low voltage systems
- Create families and project content to be used in models by VDC modelers
- Create shop drawings
- Review and set up detailed shop drawings for prefabrication and field installation.
- Create drafting views and detailed drawings.
- Maintain project drawings and details through addendums, bulletins, and updates.
- Produce and manage record drawings.
- Model Designs
- Review equipment submittals for modeling and manage project templates, blocks, details, and plotting standards.
- Perform daily model management, including administration and maintenance.
- Model designs in AutoCAD or Revit according to job specifications.
- Update models with coordination changes and reflect as-built conditions for record-keeping.
- Communicate with field and other trades for BIM process
- Participate in coordination meetings and document changes and action items.
- Communicate with team members outside of meetings as needed.
- Technical Software Knowledge
- Develop relationships with BIM/VDC software vendors.
- Create training guides for software used by field and office teams.
- Provide training on VDC software for field and office personnel.
What you’ll need for success:
- Associate’s degree in engineering or electrical design.
- 3-5+ years of experience in commercial electrical construction and 3-5 years designing electrical systems with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Ability to independently design electrical room layouts and understand project schedules, electrical risers, and system layouts.
- General construction knowledge, capability to read manufacturer’s shop drawings, and equipment cut sheets.
- Willingness to travel 15% to local job sites.
