Front of House Shift Lead Job Description
Hewn, an independently owned and operated artisan bakery, is looking to hire a Shift Lead for our Winnetka Outpost.
The Shift Lead will be responsible for overseeing the Front of House day-to-day operations during their assigned shift. This role requires a dynamic individual with a passion for customer service, and a keen eye for detail. The Shift Lead will ensure that all operations run smoothly and efficiently, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and service.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the Front of House Manager and team members during the shift and help ensure adherence to company policies and procedures. Provide guidance and assist current staff.
• Ensure that all customers receive prompt, friendly, and efficient service. Address any customer concerns or complaints in a professional and timely manner.
• Oversee the opening and closing procedures, including inventory management and cleaning tasks. Ensure that all equipment is functioning properly and that the establishment is clean and well-maintained.
• Monitor the presentation of all food and beverages to ensure they meet the company’s quality standards. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Assist the FOH Manager with inventory control, including ordering supplies, tracking usage, and minimizing waste.
• Support and promote special offers, loyalty programs, and other marketing initiatives to increase sales and customer engagement.
• Report any conflicts or issues that arise among team members to the FOH Manager
Qualifications
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a coffee shop, bakery, or similar food service environment.
• Skills: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent communication abilities, and a customer-focused attitude. Proficiency in point-of-sale systems.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional training or certifications in hospitality or food service management are a plus.
• Availability: Flexibility to work various shifts, including mornings, weekends, and holidays.
• Certifications: ServSafe Food Handlers, Allergen.

Working Conditions
The Shift Lead will work in a fast-paced coffee and bakery environment. This role may require standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying heavy items, and working in a kitchen setting. The Shift Lead should be prepared to handle the physical demands of the job while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
