Maintenance Mechanic

Job Purpose:

The Maintenance Mechanic ensures the safe and reliable operation of machinery and equipment by performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of production lines and facilities. All duties are carried out in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and in a safe and timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:

• Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
• Maintain and repair production lines and associated machinery.
• Perform preventative maintenance on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and other mechanical equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues using precision measuring and testing instruments.
• Dismantle and repair defective equipment using hand and power tools, and assess part integrity.
• Fabricate repairs using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
• Support and Collaboration:
• Communicate known problems to the Maintenance Manager and request necessary parts.
• Assist with special projects or work orders in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with and train line operators to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operation.
• Support line leads with equipment troubleshooting and complete daily line checklists.
• Safety and Cleanliness:
• Keep the work area clean and organized.
• Follow all safety protocols and promote teamwork and cooperation among employees.

• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to:
• Read and interpret diagrams, engineering specifications, and manufacturer’s instructions.
• Understand and troubleshoot electrical systems.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Physical Requirements:
• Occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
• Regularly sit and use hands for handling and feeling.
• Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Work Environment:
• Exposure to fumes, temperature changes (hot and cold), loud noises, wet environments, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations.
• Work may occur in a professional office environment as well as warehouse and production areas.

Education and Experience:

• Education:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Technical school or related education in Engineering or a related field preferred.
• Experience:
• At least 2 years of experience in a similar role in the food industry.
