Job Summary:

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with company safety policies and procedures on all underground utility construction sites. This role works closely with project managers, site supervisors, and field staff to maintain a safe work environment, reduce risks, and promote a safety-first culture. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction safety, with specific experience in underground utilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Implement and monitor company safety programs and ensure compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.

• Conduct regular job site safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure safe work practices are being followed.
• Lead accident investigations to determine root causes, recommend corrective actions, and document findings.
• Provide safety training to new employees, field crews, and supervisors, including hazard identification, PPE use, excavation safety, and confined space entry.
• Perform job hazard analysis (JHA) and develop safety plans specific to underground utility construction activities, including trenching, shoring, and working around heavy machinery.
• Organize and lead weekly toolbox talks and safety briefings to ensure that all workers are aware of potential site hazards and understand the necessary precautions.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, accident reports, training certifications, and other compliance documentation.
• Ensure all employees have the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and that it is in good condition and properly used.
• Work closely with project managers, field supervisors, and crew members to foster a culture of safety and collaboration on all job sites.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3-5 years of safety coordination experience in underground construction, utility work, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, particularly those related to underground construction and excavation.

Certifications :

• OSHA 30 certification (required).
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification is a plus.
• First Aid/CPR certification.

Skills :

• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
• Attention to detail and excellent problem-solving abilities.

Education :

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred, but not required based on experience.
