Vice President of Construction – Heavy Civil Roadway/Highway Construction


Location: Charlotte, North Carolina

Relocation Support: Available for qualified out-of-state candidates


Company Overview:

We are a leading heavy civil contractor specializing in roadway and highway construction projects in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOT). Known for delivering high-quality infrastructure projects, we are seeking an experienced Vice President of Construction to oversee operations and drive project excellence.


Position Overview:

As the Vice President of Construction, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all construction operations. You will manage multiple teams and ensure the successful execution of projects, maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. This role requires extensive experience in roadway and highway construction and a proven ability to lead large-scale teams and complex projects. Relocation support is available for candidates willing to bring their expertise to our leadership team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Set goals and provide direction for project execution, ensuring alignment with company objectives and client expectations.
  • Operations Oversight: Manage all aspects of construction operations, including project planning, resource allocation, and financial performance.
  • DOT Partnership: Act as a key liaison with DOT officials, ensuring compliance with regulations, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Team Development: Lead and mentor project managers, superintendents, and other team members to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Budget and Schedule Management: Oversee budgets, schedules, and resource allocation to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Risk Management: Identify and address potential risks across projects, implementing mitigation strategies to safeguard success.
  • Business Development: Collaborate with leadership to identify opportunities, expand client relationships, and drive growth in the DOT and heavy civil sectors.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 15 years in heavy civil construction, with at least 5 years in an executive leadership role overseeing roadway and highway projects.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • DOT Expertise: In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations and proven experience managing large-scale DOT projects.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead large teams, drive performance, and foster collaboration across departments.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in project management and construction software (e.g., Procore, P6, or similar).
  • Certifications: PMP, PE, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
