Mechanical Design Engineer
3-6 month contract with possibility for extension
$30-$45/hour DOE
On-site in Bozeman, MT
Job Description
We are seeking a Level 2 Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will work independently to design and develop innovative solutions, while collaborating with cross-functional teams. You’ll analyze project requirements, conduct feasibility studies, and produce detailed engineering drawings to optimize performance and manufacturability. You will also play a pivotal role in driving continuous improvement initiatives, proactively identifying opportunities for enhancement and leading at least one improvement project annually.
Key Responsibilities
General Engineering:
- Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Independently evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Act as a responsible lead on projects and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
- Identify, suggest, and lead at least one continuous improvement project per year.
Technical Expertise:
- Design complete projects, systems, components, or processes.
- Prepare comprehensive plans, specifications, and engineering documents.
- Conduct investigations, perform analysis, and interpret test data.
Project Management:
- Provide guidance to junior engineers as needed.
- Plan and coordinate detailed aspects of engineering work, including scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Contribute to proposals for engineering projects or funding programs.
Leadership & Communication:
- Mentor and provide professional guidance to junior staff.
- Effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrate empathy and critical listening skills to foster collaboration.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design or a related field.
- Intermediate to professional understanding of SolidWorks .
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in preparing detailed designs and technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing commercial aircraft interiors or spacecraft interiors .
- Familiarity with Windchill PDM systems .
Additional Information:
- Travel Requirements: Less than 10% annually.
Physical Demands:
- Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment:
- Moderate noise level.
- Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
