ESC has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer working onsite in Westborough, MA to support our premier client’s robotics team. We are looking for an outstanding mechanical engineer drafter who combines superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. The ideal candidate will have a foundation in mechanical engineering suited for both prototype and production level designs. This is a 9-month contract role that offers experience working with a global robotics team developing 2D and 3D mechanical designs.
Responsibilities:
- Mechanical Design and Development: Design and develop 3D and 2D mechanical components for flight-critical avionics systems, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Prototype and Production Engineering: Create and refine designs suited for both prototype and production-level applications, optimizing for performance and manufacturability.
- Testing and Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for hardware across Robotics programs, from prototype to production stages, including data collection and analysis.
- Fixture Development: Collaborate with other mechanical engineers and development teams to design and build test fixtures for mechanical components and systems.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including development and testing, to integrate mechanical designs into larger systems.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Collect and analyze test data to inform design iterations and validate performance metrics.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure designs comply with industry standards and company requirements for flight-critical systems.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in design reviews and contribute to the improvement of design processes, tools, and methodologies.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or equivalent
- 3-4 years as a mechanical engineer (less if have a masters)
- CAD experience
- Electromechanical design
- Knowledge of MCAD software 3D modeling and 2D drafting
- Core mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Experience designing mechanical assemblies for electronics
- Experience with rapid prototype tooling
- Experience in project management
- Strong communication and writing skills
Preferred Skills:
- Master’s degree
- Thermal simulation analysis using ANSYS IcePak and/or Siemens Star CCM
- Mechanical stack-up analysis
- Structural Load Analysis
- Use of engineering project management software such as JIRA, Confluence, or other Agile tools
