Laser Welding Engineer - Battery Cells and Packs
LER TechForce is looking for an experienced Welding Engineer to play a crucial role in the production and development of EV battery projects. In this role, you can use your knowledge of laser welding for batteries to make a difference in the automotive industry. Effective communication and attention to details is key, as you will be responsible for creating LiON battery cell and battery pack welding. JOB LOCATION:
Hybrid, relocation assistance available from US, Mexico, or Canada
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING: - Prepare detailed working diagrams, settings, and parameters of how to set up the laser for optimal welding.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawing, schematics and computer-generated reports.
- Research and configure the fixturing for the metals to come together for the best weld.
- Review best practices for LiON battery welding for prismatic cells.
- Responsible for defect rate monitoring, improvement, and product sustainability in manufacturing
- Assist with product and process Continuous Improvement (CI) and development activities
- Participate with Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) Site Acceptance Test (SAT) protocols
- Conduct risk assessments to identify and eliminate potential defects
- Create, maintain, and update various Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure all operators develop a full understanding of process changes
- Attend & Schedule Weekly Meetings
- Lead and complete reviews
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: - Bachelors degree in related engineering disciplines
- Minimum of at least 3 years of experience working in a related welding engineering role
- Prior laser welding experience with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
- Prior experience with EV batteries
BENEFITIAL: - Masters degree in related engineering discipline
- Experience with engine systems, gas or diesel
- IPG (IRE-Polus Group) laser experience is highly desired.
- Some exposure to hybrid, full EV, or hydrogen fuel cell technology
