Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, highly-motivated professional to join our underwriting team, with a specific focus on financial analysis. This person will have excellent communication skills and develop strong relationships with our business partners, both internal and external. Further, this candidate will exhibit strong analytical and investigative skills, a holistic understanding of commercial insurance, a background in financial analysis, and a desire to serve our customers with a best-in-class, value-driven insurance product. The ideal candidate will have the depth of experience and superior analytical skills necessary to complete detailed and professional analyses based on customer financial statements, prepare collateral recommendations, analyze public data and regulatory filings, and complete market reviews and additional projects as assigned. Lastly, the ideal candidate will add to and bolster DMC’s unique culture – a workplace built on enthusiasm, entrepreneurship, integrity, communication, proactive problem solving, and a genuine passion for helping our customers, brokers, and internal stakeholders.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate new business and renewal transportation insurance financial statements and other relevant tools, for the sake of determining whether the account is financially viable, as well as evaluating the account’s collateral and deposit requirements.
  • Contribute directly to DMC’s corporate goals of profitable growth via ensuring our financial underwriting standards are met.
  • Perform market analysis as requested by management.
  • Maintain an understanding of existing laws and regulations, emerging technologies, and competitor actions that can impact our customers, as well as a working knowledge of GAAP accounting standards, investment trends, our product offering, and our pricing models.
  • Assist management with special projects, including but not limited to product development, form/rate/rule filings, market research, or broker/customer research.
  • Other analytical and administrative duties, as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in accounting or finance.
  • Will abide by departmental policies and procedures and internal audit controls.
  • Customer service orientation, strong listening skills, ability to present findings professionally, to an executive audience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel).
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to manage time in a fast-paced environment, prioritize critical tasks, communicate with management on status, and deliver on objectives in a timely fashion.
  • Must be able to work proactively in independent settings, as well as work collaboratively with a team.
