The Florida Holocaust Museum (The FHM) honors the memory of millions of innocent men, women and children who suffered or died in the Holocaust. One of the largest Holocaust museums in the country, The FHM is dedicated to teaching members of all races and cultures to recognize the inherent worth and dignity of human life in order to prevent future genocides. One of only three American Alliance of Museum (AAM) accredited Holocaust museums, The FHM boasts an outstanding collection of contemporary visual art as well as the largest Holocaust research library in the Southeastern United States. ABOUT THE POSITION
The Florida Holocaust Museum is seeking an experienced and goal-oriented Director of Development to join our team. This is a full-time position which reports to the Chief Development Officer. The Director of Development will be responsible for a wide range of development activities including a portfolio of donors, oversight of fundraising event success, campaigns/appeals, and donor engagement. The Director of Development will work closely with senior-level Museum management and collaborate with Directors from other departments to support the Museum’s ambitious fundraising goals.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Gift Fundraising:
- Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors.
- Manage a metric-based and goal-oriented portfolio of major donors and prospects giving $5,000 to $50,000 or more annually to the Museum, ensuring personalized and strategic engagement.
- Conduct face-to-face meetings, presentations, and site visits with major gift prospects and donors, also ensuring all Museum staff and Board members in attendance have been prepared.
- Prepare and present compelling proposals and gift agreements to secure major gifts.
- Conduct research to identify prospects and analyze donor data and trends to inform major gift strategies and goals.
Campaigns, Appeals, and Donor Pipeline Development:
- Work closely with Chief Development Officer and Donor Relations Manager, and coordinate with the Engagement Department, to manage and oversee the annual appeals, Trunks of Hope campaign, new donor list purchases and appeals, lapsed donor appeals, and Life Member campaigns.
- Build and implement strategies in coordination with the Engagement Department to continually develop the pipeline of donors through new direct mail campaigns, member cultivation to donors, and visitor engagement opportunities for giving.
- Identify prospects from appeals and campaign gifts to cultivate into major gifts.
Event Fundraising and Sponsors:
- In collaboration with the Engagement team and Exhibits team build and manage a calendar of sponsorship opportunities to include but not limited to free days, program sponsors, and exhibit and opening sponsors.
- Support and oversee the Fundraising Events Manager and their efforts to drive success through fundraising events.
- Manage and oversee sponsor solicitation for all fundraising events.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or a related field. CFRE preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, with a proven track record of increasing success.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to write effectively and speak persuasively.
- Gifted relationship-builder with the skills and agility to build strong rapport with philanthropists from all walks of life.
- Proven track record of working effectively with multiple departments.
- Demonstrated experience with project and budget management preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with Altru or similar donor databases.
- Knowledge of donor prospect research processes and tools.
- Proficiency in managing multiple deadlines while working with diverse groups cross-organizationally.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to type and read on a computer screen for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of office supplies and materials up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in person and via telephone, video conference, or email.
- May require occasional travel for site visits or meetings, which could involve walking or standing for extended periods.
- Ability to perform administrative duties such as filing, organizing, and sorting documents.
