Russell Tobin is working with a premier specialty manufacturer to support their Packaging department! This role is starting as a 6 month contract with potential for extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development and transit testing of shipper designs for saleable items, promotional gifts, saleable sets, samples, and other value sets.
- Explore and evaluate new packaging concepts to enhance functionality and appeal.
- Conduct performance tests on packaging materials, focusing on shock and vibration resistance, as well as aesthetic and cushioning properties.
- Establish and maintain global logistics parameters for all company programs.
- Lead initiatives focused on value analysis, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
Supplier and Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with suppliers to develop specifications for master shippers and address component-related issues, ensuring alignment with corporate quality, aesthetic, manufacturing, pallet optimization, and cost objectives.
- Manage the shipper development process from project initiation to shipping, adhering to timelines and coordinating with departments such as Packaging, NPS, and Supply Chain.
Logistics and Compliance:
- Implement and maintain logistics parameters across all company global programs.
- Oversee hazardous shipping classifications for all developed shippers, ensuring compliance with domestic and international shipping regulations.
- Coordinate the procurement and delivery of work-in-progress (WIP) materials, components, and inventory for shipper sizing and transit testing.
Production and Testing:
- Provide technical support to Production and Quality Assurance for optimal assembly methods during testing and production runs, including creating detailed assembly instructions.
- Conduct technical evaluations of transit packages, analyzing shock and vibration dynamics, environmental hazards, and test specifications.
- Interpret test results and adjust package designs as necessary.
Documentation and Training:
- Document and approve specifications for newly developed shippers and transit packaging components. Update packaging outlines to accurately reflect transit packaging used in finished goods.
- Develop and implement test plans for large seasonal projects, regularly updating status for GBSC, GSR, Packaging, and Planning teams.
- Train new and existing employees in manufacturing engineering functions.
Performance Optimization:
- Perform real-time value analysis to minimize corrugate material usage where feasible.
- Continuously review and enhance packaging designs to optimize performance and cost-effectiveness.
