OPPORTUNITY SNAPSHOT:
The Engineer Capacity Planner, also known in the industry as an Engineering Project Manager, is responsible for overseeing and optimizing engineering projects, programs, and activities. Under the direction of the Engineering Manager this role manages and supports Engineering services planning and scheduling. This position functions as the Engineering Operations Planner, Scheduler and Data Analyst working collaboratively amongst a cross functional team with Sales Operations. Ensuring on-time completion of projects, capacity planning and process improvements through engineering operations.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
- Oversee Engineering project timelines to ensure they align with organizational objectives.
- Implement improvements to workflows, processes, and methods based on data-driven insights.
- Manage weekly Engineering schedules to ensure timely delivery and completion of engineering activities.
- Monitor and mitigate risks to ensure adherence to project timelines.
- Coordinate and facilitate all project timeline efforts between all cross functional team members and ensures Engineering meets critical project deadlines.
- Support and implement operating procedures for Engineering services, under direction of Engineering Manager in partnership with Sales Operations and Manufacturing.
- Expert in data analysis developing and maintaining key account planning reports. Driving comprehensive data analysis reviews and effectively communicates findings to the Engineering Manager
- Understand workflows and support Engineering in driving and implementing new tools and processes within Engineering. Work directly with cross-functional teams to ensure continuous, on-going improvement of methods, productivity and quality within Engineering.
- Responsible for maintaining capacity planning & resource needs for Engineering. Collaborates and provides solutions in balancing resources that satisfies the accounts needs/trends directly with Sales Operations and Manufacturing.
- Follows and complies with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
- Assist in developing strategic plans to enhance Engineering capacity and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reports related to Engineering performance and metrics.
- Stay updated with industry trends and recommend innovative practices to improve Engineering performance.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
- 4-year university or college degree in Business and/or Professional Management with related coursework.
- 2+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred degree, study, and experience in construction planning and/or project management background.
- Proven experience managing cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills to assess and validate engineering and construction drawings and general Architectural & Design blueprints.
- Proficient in project management tools and methodologies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on innovative solutions.
- Ability to prepare reports and communicate project needs.
- Expert in Microsoft Excel is required (Reports, Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP). Ability to operate in Microsoft programs is required.
- Experience working within Sales, Project Management and/or Operational/Manufacturing Systems.
- Experience with (CRM) Salesforce, Power BI, and (ERP) Epicor systems is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration across functions to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and other employees of the organization.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The Engineer Capacity Planner role primarily operates in an office setting within a manufacturing facility but also involves regular interaction with production areas, which may include exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures. The position requires the ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer, with periodic standing and walking when inspecting manufacturing processes or attending on-site meetings. Standard full-time hours, typically during regular business hours, are expected, though flexibility may be required to meet project deadlines or address urgent manufacturing issues, occasionally extending to evenings or weekends during critical phases. Minimal to moderate travel may be necessary to coordinate with vendors, provide customer support, or conduct site visits. The role also requires compliance with company and OSHA safety standards when working in or around production areas, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and steel-toed shoes when applicable
