DATA CENTER PROJECT MANAGER
Data Center Project Manager Role Responsibilities
- Manage programs associated within area of responsibility.
- Create and manage end-to-end project plans and ensure on time delivery.
- Engage with appropriate teams and resources to execute tasks or projects.
- Plan, manage, and communicate end-to-end project plans with stakeholders and teams.
- Perform day-to-day project check-in and update to manage project delivery and quality.
- Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities and communicate to stakeholders and other teams to drive resolution.
- Recognize potential customer impact of other events and issues (e.g., customer lockdown), communicate potential impact, and plan for impact accordingly.
- Proactively review schedules and avoid conflicts when possible.
- Identify, coordinate, manage expectations, and offer alternatives when defining customer solutions.
- Data Center Work Environment Suggest ways for reducing risk of performing maintenance; work with others to accommodate scheduling needs.
- Suggest improvements in implementation based on depth of understanding.
- Contribute to a positive team environment by learning and adopting best practices.
- Follow and adhere to safety and security policies and procedures.
- Report immediately any safety or security issues or concerns.
What makes this role interesting? This role provides the opportunity to oversee critical data center projects, including new construction and site spin-ups, in a dynamic and fluid work environment. They will gain hands-on experience with server rack installations, network re-cabling, and managing break-fix queues. Additionally, the role provides the chance to work in a large-scale data center environment similar to those of major tech companies, while maintaining a positive and collaborative work culture.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Top 3 Skills:
1. Minimum 4 years’ experience with Project management experience in large-scale data center environments.
2. Minimum 4 years’ experience with data center operations, including installation and maintenance of hardware and infrastructure.
3. Minimum 4 years’ experience with coordinating and managing multiple teams and projects simultaneously.
Years of Experience: 4 overall years of experience in the field.
Qualifications: 2+ years’ experience in Critical Environment infrastructures (e.g., UPS, Generator, AHU) or working in physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling) preferred.
Degree/Certs: No degree is required to be eligible for this role. Preferred: Technical College degree in Computer Science, Math, Telecommunications, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Applicable certifications: ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA, Microsoft, Network Certifications, PMP, ITIL, CDCP.
Disqualifiers: Candidates with lack of experience in a data center environment will not be eligible for the role. Candidates must have at least a couple of years of experience in a large-scale data center setting.
Best: The ideal resume would contain experience working in data centers for one of the Big 5 tech companies (Apple, Meta, Google, Microsoft, or Amazon). This experience indicates familiarity with the scale and complexity of owned and operated data centers, which is highly valuable for this role.
PI: Feedback from team & Sponsor. Performance will be assessed based on the ability to maintaining a positive working environment and ensuring smooth collaboration between teams and avoiding frustration among team members regarding work assignments and inter-team cooperation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Start & End: 2/3/2025 – 6/30/2025.
Schedule: M-F, 40 hrs a week, no OT expected; core business hours between 7AM and 7PM.
Typical Tasks: The role will consist of the following,
- 40% Meetings
- 50% Live Coordinating and Problem Solving: will involve ad hoc coordination with on-site work teams and partner teams, addressing any issues that arise.
- 10% Floor Time: walking the floor, observing, and coordinating tasks.
Interaction Level: High level of interaction with Team & Sponsor.
Work Environment: Resource will be working at the following location: Douglasville, GA
Flex Hours/Remote: Onsite 100% with some flexibility.
Extension: Chance to extend.
