Job Summary
The Fleet Manager, reporting to the Vice President of Field Operations, leads a dynamic and essential function within the organization, ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the vehicle fleet. In this role, the Fleet Manager assists with shaping the fleet strategy, oversees acquisition and maintenance processes, and drives cost-effective operations across the company’s footprint. Serving as the primary contact for all fleet-related matters, this individual collaborates closely with internal teams and trusted vendors to enhance performance and minimize downtime. The Fleet Manager also leads a skilled team of Vehicle Maintenance Mechanics/Technicians, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This role combines strategic insight with hands-on management to make a meaningful impact on field operations.

Supervision and Team Management
- Hiring, direct supervision, and evaluating the work of team members.
- Develop and implement training modules for vehicles and equipment use and care.
Equipment Acquisition and Management
- Oversees the acquisition and management of capital equipment, including replacement analysis, disposal of assets, negotiating prices, implementing equipment rentals and leases, and future strategic planning with forecasted plan projections.
- Create vehicle purchase specifications and purchase vehicles across Ziply Fiber’s footprint.
Fleet Assessment and Compliance
- Responsible for assessing and determining whether a vehicle meets environmental standards and whether a vehicle should be purchased or removed from the fleet.
- Ensures compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations related to fleet operations and maintenance.
Maintenance and Repair Oversight
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including service histories, work orders, and inventory.
- Responsible for all aspects of operation, including well-run/full-service vehicle maintenance repair facilities.
- Regular checks to ensure vehicles are in optimal condition, scheduling repairs, and vehicle inspections, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Closely collaborate with internal Vehicle Maintenance Mechanics/Technicians and third-party repair vendors to ensure service work is performed in a quality manner, on time, and on within budget.
Asset Management and Strategic Planning
- Develop and administer vehicle/equipment asset management processes from procurement to the disposition of aging vehicles.
- Implement and monitor safety standards to protect drivers and fleet vehicles.
Regulatory Compliance and Safety Management
- Ensure all drivers are up to date with CDL licenses, i.e., CDL, Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications, and drug testing.
Additional Responsibilities
- Performs other duties as required to support the business and evolving organization.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree highly preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in fleet management, including vehicle acquisition, maintenance, and operations. or relevant experience.
- Proven supervisory experience, with preference for previous management in a union environment.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prepare and track a departmental budget for equipment repairs, equipment purchases, and shop supplies.
- General knowledge of computer operations including the ability to learn and use computer programs fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in creating and establishing fleet policies and procedures.
- Experience in price, spec, and purchase or lease vehicles.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and satisfactory driving record.
- Must complete a pre-employment drug screening.

Physical Requirements
Primarily work in indoor office setting. Travel to other remote vehicle maintenance locations to interact with maintenance mechanics/technicians and ensure associated equipment is in good working order. May involve infrequent outdoor, uncontrolled settings as required.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
