Requirements:
- Experience with: Design/creation of custom test equipment, prototyping, etc. Designing of electromechanical systems.
- Willingness to provide hands on participation in the creation of the aforementioned.
- Solid understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles including statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials science.
- Proficiency in CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) process.
Role Responsibilities:
- The research and prototyping of concepts to transform them into practical solutions. This includes generating product CAD models, iterative prototypes, beta commercial units, and parts ready for production.
- Establishing timelines, deliverables, product BOM budgets, and coordinating with the Company’s R&D Technical Lead, COO, and President.
- Planning ahead and adjusting as technical challenges arrive.
- Collaborating with the corporate and engineering teams to select new R&D projects. This includes idea initiation, technical viability/feasibility, identifying the market need, ability to scale, comparison to existing products/solutions, and the final selection of new R&D projects to put into the development and commercialization pipeline.
- Occasionally, coordinating and collaborating with external development and commercialization partners in getting products ready for production.
Other Qualities/Abilities/Skills:
- Understanding of electromechanical systems and making prototype electronic controls.
- Bonus is experience working with ceramics, composites, and other advanced materials.
- Ideally 5 to 10+ years of experience working in the field(s) of R&D and advanced manufacturing.
