Organizing Director, Hana Center
NAKASEC (National Korean American Service & Education Consortium) is an Asian American immigrant justice organization advocating for local, state, and federal systemic change. NAKASEC is a network of affiliate grassroots community-based organizations in six states (IL, NY/NJ, PA, TX, and VA) and a national staff. We aim to organize Korean and Asian Americans to achieve social, racial, and economic justice.
HANA Center is a Chicago-based community organization working to meet the critical needs of Korean, Asian American, and multiethnic immigrant communities and build power toward systemic change to advance human rights.
What You’ll Do
As the Organizing Director at HANA, you will inspire and lead a dynamic team, harnessing vision, motivation, and dedication to build community power and drive structural change toward racial, social, and economic justice. You will empower directly impacted and vulnerable community members to create systemic change by drawing on your deep expertise in community leadership, power building, membership engagement, and campaign development.
This role involves overseeing HANA’s ambitious organizing program and building a robust base of community leaders to champion bold, progressive policies and practices at local, state, and national levels. Recruiting, developing, and sustaining a team of skilled community organizers will be key to strengthening and ensuring the success of HANA’s initiatives.
With a presence in both the Chicago and Prospect Heights offices, you will actively engage with these communities, advancing HANA’s mission and goals while fostering meaningful connections.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Base-Building and Leadership Development : Train and support staff to develop community leaders, implement campaigns, and strengthen HANA’s base through structured leadership programs and tracking systems.
- Membership and Community Engagement : Oversee programs to engage members in relationship-building, education, and skills development while organizing regular outreach and listening sessions in community hubs.
- Campaign Strategy and Execution : Lead the integration of campaigns, civic engagement, and communication efforts, empowering community leaders and solidifying HANA’s role in coalitions at all levels.
- Team and Resource Management : Recruit, train, and manage a cohesive organizing team, ensure program coordination, and oversee budgets to meet organizing goals.
- Strategic Partnerships and Representation : Build and maintain strong partnerships with community organizations and represent HANA in coalitions, conferences, donor engagements, and public forums.
To be successful as the Organizing Director at the HANA Center, you should have:
- 5+ years of experience working on issues affecting Korean American, Asian American, immigrant communities, labor, or electoral organizations with demonstrated success in leading and winning campaigns.
- Proven ability to supervise, motivate, and inspire teams and community members, with 5+ years of experience in staff management, team building, and leadership development.
- Strong track record in developing and operationalizing transformative community organizing models, with a commitment to racial, economic, and social justice.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including producing reports and proposals; familiarity with social media platforms and digital organizing tools; and CRM experience (EveryAction, VAN) a plus.
- Bilingual in Korean and/or Spanish is a plus; willingness to travel regularly; and a belief in the power of communities to organize and achieve collective goals.
