The Business Development Officer will combine a thorough knowledge of the bank’s products, services, and lending policies with superior customer service. Will be responsible for maintaining and deepening existing client relationships and developing new business, including loans, deposits, and other services offered by the bank. Must have the ability to analyze complex commercial credit requests promptly and accurately and effectively negotiate credit terms and collateral specifications. Demonstrated ability to act as a trusted advisor to small and mid-sized businesses and organizations. Strong community orientation and volunteer ethic.
Responsibilities:
- Regular calling on potential and existing customers and centers of influence to develop new loan, deposit, and cash management business and maintain and increase existing business. Maintains a prospect list of potential new business customers and referral sources.
- Ability to determine current and future needs of customers and prospects with the goal of enhancing relationships.
- Work collaboratively with the branch network and other areas of the bank to identify new business opportunities.
- Provide a superior level of customer service and support.
- Responsible for referring opportunities to other areas of the bank, i.e., mortgage, consumer, and retail banking.
- Make loan decisions within established lending authority.
- Develop and evaluate all types of commercial credit, including commercial real estate (owner-occupied and investment) and C&I (term loans and lines of credit) loans. Must be able to thoroughly underwrite with appropriate consideration for safety and soundness and regulatory compliance. Emphasis on responsiveness and accuracy.
- Analyze, structure, and negotiate sometimes complex loans to appropriately balance risk and reward, including terms, pricing recommendations, and special conditions.
- Think critically and use sound judgment when evaluating potential loans/customers. Present concerns, offer solutions, develop and support loan recommendations, and logically defend position.
- Preparation of underwriting and loan presentations (including initial risk rating recommendations) for Credit Committee, Loan Committee, and Board of Directors. Present credit requests to these approval bodies.
- Initiates preparation of loan closing documentation. Works with Loan Administration and/or outside legal counsel to assure accurate preparation of loan documentation according to approval conditions. Ultimately responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and organization of loan closing packages.
- Proactively monitor portfolio and work with borrowing customers to procure updated financial information on an ongoing basis for upcoming loan maturities, renewals, covenant compliance, documentation deficiencies, etc.
- Review loan risk ratings annually or as otherwise indicated, according to policy parameters.
- Responsible for the timely recognition of potential problem loans and recommendation of appropriate mitigative action plans.
- Develop and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships with internal support departments in solving needs of the customer.
- Maintain current and thorough knowledge of bank lending policies and all other appropriate policies and procedures.
- Represent the bank through participation in a variety of civic, charitable, networking, educational, and business activities.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of competitors’ products and pricing in the market served.
- Completes all required regulatory training as assigned within deadlines established, including BSA, bank security, and any other training assigned, within required timeframes and on an annual basis.

Banking Policies:
- Understand and comply with all bank policies.
- Understand and comply with all applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, SARs, and bank security procedures.
- Maintain security of customer information and adhere to the Privacy Policy.
- Complete all required annual compliance training requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience. Formal credit underwriting training and experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting and prudent commercial lending principles.
- Strong local market presence and network of referral sources.
- Proven track record of producing at a high level in a commercial environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial lending (including CRE and C&I) and business development.
- Strong analytical skills are mandatory.
- Thorough understanding of commercial loan documentation.
