We’re looking for a Gourmet Food Store Manager and Purchasing Specialist to join our dynamic team and help us continue to deliver source and deliver the best food products while leading a dedicated team.
Position Overview:
The Store Manager and Purchasing Specialist will oversee all daily operations of our Marky’s Gourmet Store, our very first location that has been open in Miami since 1983. We need someone who will ensure the efficient management of staff, inventory, and customer service. You will maintain the highest standards of product quality and presentation, drive sales, and ensure that the store runs smoothly and provides an exceptional customer experience. A deep understanding of gourmet food, along with excellent leadership and customer service skills, is essential for success in this role. In addition to this, you will be tasked with looking for and reaching out to potential international suppliers to inquire about their companies and products. This will help you curate the product selection and continuously improve it. You will coordinate with our in-house Purchasing Department on any leads on products and suppliers that you think would improve the store’s selection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Store Operations: Oversee day-to-day store operations, including opening and closing procedures, staff scheduling, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Product Management: Help curate and manage the selection of gourmet food products. Ensure all items are fresh, properly stocked, and within their expiration dates. Oversee the receiving, stocking, and display of products.
- Product and Supplier Research: Identify and connect with potential national and international suppliers to learn about their companies and products. Build and maintain relationships with suppliers that you believe can provide products that distinguish us from competitors. You will collaborate with our Marky’s Purchasing Department to discuss any promising products or suppliers that could enhance the store's offerings.
- Customer Service: Provide outstanding service by helping customers find the products they need, answering inquiries, and creating a welcoming shopping environment. Address and resolve customer concerns professionally. Teach and train staff members on providing the best quality customer service possible.
- Staff Leadership: Lead, train, and develop a team of store associates. Set performance expectations, offer ongoing coaching, and foster a positive, collaborative work culture. Ensure staff members are knowledgeable about the products and best practices for customer service.
- Sales and Marketing: Drive sales through effective merchandising, promotions, and marketing strategies. Regularly monitor sales data to identify trends and growth opportunities.
- Inventory Control: Monitor stock levels to ensure product availability while minimizing waste and overstocking. Conduct regular inventory audits and place new orders as needed.
- Quality Control: Maintain high standards of food safety, product quality, and store cleanliness. Ensure that all products, especially perishable items, are handled according to safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of retail management experience, ideally in gourmet or specialty food products. Proven ability to lead a team and oversee daily store operations is essential.
- Product Knowledge: Strong familiarity with gourmet foods products such as caviar, smoked fish, cheeses, chocolates, and other specialty items. A passion for food and culinary excellence is a must.
- Curiosity and “Foodie” Mentality: Gastronomic interest in international gourmet foods and monitoring of the market is a must. You are someone who constantly looks to find new products that would enhance our current selection and you are willing to initiate conversations with potential suppliers.
- Analytical Skills (Order and Vendor Management): Proven ability to manage store inventory, including the placement of purchase orders with vendors, volume forecasting, costing, pricing structures, and invoicing with accuracy.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in training, developing, and managing staff is highly desirable.
- Customer Focus: Strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service with the ability to connect with customers and exceed their expectations.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent time-management skills, with the ability to multitask and manage various responsibilities effectively.
- Food Safety: Knowledge of food safety standards and handling procedures for perishable goods.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in basic retail software, point-of-sale systems (Clover), and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Background in Finance/Accounting/Economics: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or Economics a must.if you have a Master’s degree or equivalent in the field, that is a plus.
- Language Skills: Must be fluent in English and proficient in Russian , Spanish language skills are a plus.
