JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Services is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and advancement of Day Kimball’s Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal service line. This role works closely with operational, clinical, and senior leadership within both the medical group and the hospital. The director will oversee clinical programs, regulatory compliance, performance improvement, certification and accreditation, and quality improvement processes. Managerial oversight includes supervising practice staff and ensuring alignment with Day Kimball Health's (DKH) overall objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Clinical Oversight:
Oversee the orthopedics and musculoskeletal service line, including orthopedic surgery, trauma, pain management, and to serve as a bridge to physical therapy.
Ensure compliance with clinical practice standards, regulatory requirements, and quality improvement initiatives.
Develop and implement policies and procedures, in collaboration with physicians and advanced practice professionals, for the orthopedic practice.
Operational Management:
Plan, direct, and coordinate operations and programs for the orthopedics and musculoskeletal service line.
Manage staffing, budget, and resources to meet operational objectives.
Implement best practices and processes for continuous improvement.
Strategic Planning:
Translate and implement strategic plans and objectives for the orthopedics and musculoskeletal service line.
Supervise staff, ensuring efficient and effective communication.
Collaborate with clinical operations, physician leadership, and nursing leadership to improve patient care quality.
Lead projects, committees, and initiatives that support the overall mission and goals of DKH.
Business Development:
Develop and execute strategies for business growth and development.
Increase awareness and encourage referrals to orthopedics and musculoskeletal services across Northeast Connecticut and beyond.
Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, medical staff, and other DKH departments.
Leadership & Team Development:
Lead and develop practice leaders and team members, fostering a culture of clinical and operational excellence.
Participate in recruitment, training, and development of clinical and administrative teams.
Provide coaching and development opportunities to grow talent within the practice and broader program.
Performance & Quality Improvement:
Monitor and evaluate the efficiency of business procedures.
Lead change initiatives and promote stakeholder buy-in.
Ensure high-quality, efficient, and effective care through improved processes and provider engagement

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare management, or a related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
5-7 years in physician practice management, specifically in orthopedics, with increasing scope of management responsibilities.
Ability to implement process improvements and have a demonstrated track record of success.
Proven ability to apply a structured methodology and lead change management activities.
SKILLS:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Ability to identify and manage anticipated and persistent resistance

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Act as a representative and leader within the organization and the external community.
Lead efforts to streamline processes and increase service line volumes.
Participate in market or system-level projects, committees, councils, or work groups.
Ensure high-quality care by supporting and developing responsive and competent support teams across the service line and integrated with the rest of the organization.
Participate in associate performance management, including coaching and disciplining as necessary.
Flexibility in work schedule in order to provide the most effective support for the department.
May perform other related duties as assigned
