A Day in the Life of a Purchasing Manager

As the Purchasing Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in optimizing purchasing activities and inventory planning for a manufacturing organization. You’ll oversee sourcing, supplier relationships, production planning, and lead a talented team to ensure smooth operations and cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead all sourcing activities for domestic and international suppliers, including strategic sourcing and supplier development.
• Develop and implement a strategic sourcing plan to optimize cost structures while ensuring supply chain continuity.
• Oversee production planning processes, ensuring effective material availability and capacity planning.
• Manage supplier contract negotiations and performance scorecards.
• Analyze and improve purchasing and ERP system processes for greater efficiency.
• Achieve year-over-year inventory turn objectives and balance supply chain risks and costs.
• Provide backup support for production planning during absences or PTO.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• APICS certification is a plus.
• 3+ years of experience in a senior buying or procurement role.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Preferred experience with measuring devices such as gauges, calipers, and meters.
• Ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
