A Day in the Life of a Purchasing Manager
As the Purchasing Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in optimizing purchasing activities and inventory planning for a manufacturing organization. You’ll oversee sourcing, supplier relationships, production planning, and lead a talented team to ensure smooth operations and cost-effective solutions.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead all sourcing activities for domestic and international suppliers, including strategic sourcing and supplier development.
- Develop and implement a strategic sourcing plan to optimize cost structures while ensuring supply chain continuity.
- Oversee production planning processes, ensuring effective material availability and capacity planning.
- Manage supplier contract negotiations and performance scorecards.
- Analyze and improve purchasing and ERP system processes for greater efficiency.
- Achieve year-over-year inventory turn objectives and balance supply chain risks and costs.
- Provide backup support for production planning during absences or PTO.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- APICS certification is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in a senior buying or procurement role.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Preferred experience with measuring devices such as gauges, calipers, and meters.
- Ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
