Job Description

Amundsen Davis, a full-service business law firm, is seeking an experienced Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join a strong Intellectual Property team and an excellent firm culture! This position will be asked to perform legal secretarial, paralegal and administrative duties in the areas of patent law, litigation, and other intellectual property areas.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file patent-related documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”); coordinate with foreign counsel regarding international patent filings.
  • Communicate with client(s), international counsel and other parties at the direction of attorneys.
  • Check status of specific matters with the USPTO.
  • Coordinate patent searches to assess the patentability of inventions.
  • Coordinate with Docket Specialist regarding docketing, schedule maintenance and related deadlines.
  • Prepare and send legal correspondence and memos electronically, and/or prepare for mailing or courier.
  • Prepare expenses, and other administrative duties.
  • Proofread/edit attorneys’ work product.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for attorneys.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Competencies, Education and Experience

  • High School diploma is required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in patent law or intellectual property law.
  • Some familiarity with US patent laws and USPTO rules and procedures.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, and some facility with electronic legal support tools, such docketing and database management software and portals. Prior experience and/or familiarity with the USPTO Patent Center web portal is a strong plus.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
