Summary:
The Fire Protection Project Manager is responsible for executing sprinkler projects throughout the Chicago-land area, and over-seeing those projects from start-to-finish to ensure a safe and on-time completion that is within or under budget.
Primary Job Duties:
- Manage all aspects of a project: conduct pre-plan meetings and support field and shop to perform efficiently on project
- Perform preliminary design and calculations for the bid estimates
- Responsible for cost breakdown and booking of projects
- Prepare pricing for materials, labor, freight, and fabrication
- Obtain initial schedule and continue to monitor and update schedule
- Develop initial schedule of values and submit monthly pay applications to accounting
- Maintain over-billed position as well as process and collect receivables/retention timely
- Participate in major vendor negotiations and purchasing for projects
- Account for all shop drawings, submittals, and approvals required
- Produce and manage an accurate forecast of financials for project
- Seek out competitive vendors and services to assure that Hill/Ahern’s fire protection projects are competitively bid
- Price, negotiate, and process change orders, as well as maintain change order log
- Document all correspondence related to all project matters to avoid claims and protecting the best interest of the company and client
- Effectively project gross profit on projects
- Handle customer reported problems and manage effective resolution
- Responsible for preparing scope and quotation letters for customers
- Maintain monthly estimate logs
- Meet with management on a regular basis to discuss current estimating backlog and due dates
- Participate in turnover meetings as required
- Assist with any follow-up information with the customer as requested
- Assume an active role in managing the projects in conjunction with the designer and construction superintendent
- All other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Building Construction Management preferred, or equivalent experience
- Five plus years of project management, experience preferably within the fire protection industry
- Knowledge of how to calculate systems using HydraCalc preferred
- NICET certification preferred
