Job Title: Engineering - Sr Field Engineering Specialist

Location: Cedar Rapid, IA/ Madison, WI (Primary residence must be within a reasonable distance of designated headquarters and within 40 minutes of an operating center in the zone)

JOB SUMMARY:


Performs moderately complex engineering detail and field work, ensuring work orders are complete and all requirements are met. Selects cost effective and safe project designs. Serves as a primary customer contact for assigned communities regarding new or changes to existing electric and/or gas systems. May train less-experience staff.

*Must possess a valid driver’s license.

*Must be willing to travel.

*Travel can include occasional overnight stays.

*For positions located within company territory that supply natural gas to customers, this job is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 199), and is subject to drug testing according to said regulations.

*Primary residence must be within a reasonable distance of designated headquarters and within 40 minutes of an operating center in the zone(s) for which employee is responsible. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

*Solid working knowledge of applicable math and physics concepts and ability to apply to the workplace.

*Demonstrated solid working knowledge of construction practices.

*Demonstrated solid working knowledge of design and work packaging standards, federal/state regulations.

*Demonstrated solid working knowledge of gas and electric codes, OSHA rules, DOT requirements.

*Demonstrated solid working knowledge of utility construction equipment, project management, and material procurement processes.

*Demonstrated mechanical and survey and drafting skills.

*Ability to draw accurate and legible engineering-related maps.

*Advanced surveying and right-of-way knowledge.

*Good financial analysis knowledge.

*Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

*Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management); experience with STORMS and ArcFM software preferred.

*Must be switch qualified in electrical operations switching, gas operations, and gas emergency procedures.

*Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment.


Primary Accountabilities :


*Handles moderately complex customer inquiries involving company procedures and engineering detail using standard operating procedures involving tariff application, extension rules and agreements, service rules, code requirements, service entrance, and metering requirements.

*Works with the crew to communicate work orders and train crew members. May plan, schedule, assign, and review the work of crews.

*Plans work orders including as-builts, preparing estimates and work orders, preparing material lists, ensures accuracy of sag calculations, switching/valve sequence planning, training, and writing accurate policies and procedures.

*Performs a variety of field work, including locating and sizing of services, load determination, distribution easements, staking, survey work of increasing difficulty, field checks, securing licenses, and completion of joint use applications while adhering to regulatory requirements. Is responsible for ensuring timely completion and completeness of information.

*Tracks and reports work related functions necessary to support the business processes including creating work requests, CIS transactions, and establishing projects in work management, GIS/Mapping System, and various other systems. Obtains information from engineering prints & prepares necessary maps & sketches.

*Provides technical support for work requests, resolves technical issues, and ensures crews understand work scope, detail and structure.

*Works with hourly and salaried supervisors in scheduling work for others.

*Assists in community and customer relations as required. Is a representative of the company and participates in community activities. *Interacts with operations managers to identify resource requirements.

*Responsible for emergency response back-up in assigned process (i.e. widespread electrical outages or gas emergencies). This includes assessing risks and costs, determining labor resources, assisting in managing callout procedures and monitoring performance measures for employees involved with emergency response. Demonstrates ability to handle emergency response across processes.

*Keeps current in knowledge and understanding of company procedures, rates, rules, practices, standards, and application of construction materials. Supervision

*Performs work under the general supervision of a Team Lead.
