JOB PURPOSE
The Vice President of Marketing & Medical Education serves as a strategic leader responsible for driving the organization’s marketing vision, fostering a high-performing team, and ensuring the seamless integration of medical education initiatives with commercialization goals. This role combines strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and operational excellence to position the organization as a leader in the spinal implant industry .
The VP will champion customer-centric strategies, promote innovation, and leverage data-driven insights to achieve revenue growth and market differentiation. As a steward of organizational culture, they will inspire and develop the next generation of leaders and align marketing efforts with corporate values.
This individual will also drive commercial excellence through support of strategic distributor partnerships, compliance with regulatory standards, and the creation of scalable systems that support the company’s growth in domestic and global markets. Their work will ensure consistent alignment across compliance, quality, sales, and operations to deliver impactful, measurable results that advance the company’s mission and brand reputation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are the essential functions of this position. This position may be responsible for performing additional duties and tasks as needed and assigned.
Strategic Planning and Vision
- Establishes strategic marketing plans to achieve corporate objectives for product franchises.
- Develops and executes comprehensive marketing plans and programs, both short and long range, to support sales and revenue objectives of the organization.
- Builds out a long-term strategic vision, in concert with Medical Education leadership, for comprehensive educational initiatives associated with new product introductions, downstream initiatives, and procedural solutions.
- Conducts market assessments on current and new product concepts and provides direction for future product development.
- Ensures effective control of marketing results and takes corrective action to guarantee marketing objectives are achieved within designated budgets.
- Monitors competitive products and marketing activities to adapt strategies as needed.
Team Leadership and Culture
- Directly supervises employees in the Spinal Implants marketing and medical education department, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluation, and conflict resolution.
- Fosters an inclusive, high-performing culture that values creativity, collaboration, and diverse perspectives within the team.
- Mentors and coaches team members to develop their leadership capabilities and prepare them for expanded roles within the organization.
- Implements structured development programs to build skills and ensure a pipeline of future marketing leaders.
- Regularly assesses team dynamics and skill gaps, fostering opportunities for professional growth through training, feedback, and stretch assignments.
- Leads succession planning efforts to ensure continuity and sustained leadership strength within the marketing and medical education teams.
- Develops a framework for identifying and nurturing high-potential talent within the team.
- Creates a collaborative leadership culture that encourages knowledge sharing, peer coaching, and cross-functional learning opportunities.
- Develops and aligns sales training programs with medical education efforts and company commercialization plans.
Distributor and Partner Management
- Partners with sales leadership to recruit new strategic distributors and leads cross-functional teams consisting of sales management, supply chain, and commercial operations to ensure seamless onboarding and commercial excellence.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with industry influencers, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and strategic partners to support marketing and medical education initiatives.
- Oversees comprehensive medical education strategies to drive procedural and new product adoption at national and regional levels.
Brand Management and Customer Experience
- Develops and executes customer experience (CX) strategies to enhance customer satisfaction, loyalty, and advocacy, ensuring marketing and education aligns with a customer-centric approach.
- Works closely with Corporate Branding and Communication teams to oversee advertising and promotional activities, including print, online, electronic media, and direct mail.
- Ensures a consistent corporate image across all product lines and events.
- Resolves conflicts and facilitates structural changes within the marketing group to ensure swift responses to opportunities and challenges.
Budgeting and Performance Management
- Develops and manages the product marketing operating budget to align with corporate objectives and financial goals.
- Tracks and evaluates marketing performance using established KPIs to guide strategic adjustments and ensure ROI.
Cross-Functional Engagement and Leadership
- Collaborates with compliance, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure all marketing strategies and materials adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Partners with operations and supply chain teams to align marketing plans with product availability and ensure seamless execution of campaigns and product launches.
- Works closely with sales leadership to align marketing initiatives with sales strategies, ensuring consistent messaging and effective sales enablement tools.
- Drives collaboration across departments to foster innovation, resolve conflicts, and align cross-functional efforts with organizational goals.
- Leads cross-functional teams in onboarding new distributors, ensuring seamless coordination between sales, operations, and marketing.
- Facilitates clear and consistent communication across functions to ensure alignment on timelines, priorities, and shared objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the education, knowledge, skill and/or ability required for this position.
Education/Certifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, or related discipline
Experience, Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities :
- Minimum of 10 years marketing experience in the medical device industry and 5-7 years of experience leading teams and managing managers
- Direct responsibility for managing product P&L
- Developed and executed comprehensive global marketing plans in concert with multiple commercial stakeholders
- Created strategic marketing plans for a business segment that have achieved financial goals
- Track record of successfully leading product commercialization from new idea to post market surveillance
- Experience getting first-hand customer information and using it for improvements (e.g. KOLs, market research, VOC)
- Led development of brand positioning strategies that resulted in incremental demand for product.
- Experience instilling a repeatable marketing methodology across an organization is a plus.
- Demonstrated execution of communication and promotional campaigns (e.g. labs, tradeshows, customer education)
- Expert knowledge of contemporary practices in Marketing and keen business acumen.
- Proven ability to lead and develop marketing colleagues, motivate and inspire cross functional teams
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills across all levels
- Advanced influencing and negotiating skills
- Ability to travel 30% of time
