Electrical Designer – Drafting/Design Group
Job Description:
Responsible for leading a team in designing and maintaining detailed electrical drawings using AutoCAD software. Assigned projects will vary in size and complexity, requiring collaboration with Project Managers, Design Engineers, and Drafting Designers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and complete electrical drawings using practical design knowledge.
- Coordinate with other disciplines and assist lead engineers/designers to ensure quality outputs.
- Conduct field investigations, produce detailed sketches, and generate field reports as needed.
- Stay updated on design processes, modeling, drafting techniques, and standards.
- Recommend and implement improvements to design standards to reduce costs and enhance work quality.
- Investigate and resolve design and field engineering issues using innovative approaches.
- Ensure the use of effective design and engineering techniques.
- Resolve project-related issues and provide technical guidance to team members.
- Contribute to a cooperative team environment by achieving related results in a supportive manner.
- Align multidisciplinary CAD teams for model reviews and deliverable preparation.
- Provide project status updates in meetings and keep the team on task.
- Support the business development group with project cost estimation and deliverables.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of all drawings and drawing packages.
- Develop and finalize drawing packages for IFA (Issued for Approval), IFB (Issued for Bid), and IFC (Issued for Construction) stages.
- Utilize the latest version of AutoCAD for all projects.
- Interpret material nomenclature, specifications, symbology, and P&IDs accurately.
- Use company or equivalent document management systems.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Design Engineers, and Design Teams to develop construction drawing packages.
- Understand the function of measurement equipment and process piping.
- Incorporate industry-specific terminology and acronyms into drawings and outputs.
- Simultaneously manage as-built and construction projects as needed.
Position Requirements and Skills:
- Minimum 10 years of electrical design experience in refinery, plant, tank terminals, and rail, barge, and truck facilities.
- Proficiency with Windows operating systems and AutoCAD software.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal); ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work overtime when necessary to meet project deadlines.
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley ControlLogix 1756 and Ethernet IP protocol is a plus .
Education:
- Associate degree or equivalent experience required.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based environment with a CADD station setup.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
- Occasional field visits required.
