How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?



This Sales Specialist role concentrates on two different areas within the sales field, Healthcare Sales and Specialty Gas Sales. Healthcare Sales focuses on selling medical gases, products, and services to medical establishments within a specific geographic area while also serving as a subject matter expert to both internal and external customers. Responsibilities include development and execution of regional company specific medical gas marketing plans and supporting the regional company in this capacity. Specialty Gas Sales is responsible for driving growth of Specialty Gas Products to existing and prospective customers through both direct sales and collaboration with area account managers. Responsibilities also include direct accountability for product management, as well as identification and development of market growth plans to achieve business and sales objectives in the assigned geography.

  • Responsible for increasing sales and profit margins by presenting the company’s various medical product lines and specialty gases to new prospects and existing customers by both explaining and demonstrating Airgas’s products and services, further emphasizing the benefits matched to customer need.
  • Develop and implement customer specific marketing plans by studying the type of product and volume consumed by customers/prospects depending on industry and/or trade factor.
  • Prepare sales proposals and contracts by quoting pricing, credit terms, estimated date of delivery based on knowledge of Airgas’ product availability, production and delivery schedules.
  • Provide product and industry training for medical and specialty gas, including but not limited to customer presentations and recommendations and acting in a resource capacity for other Airgas sales professionals. Provide customers with the engineering, technical support, training, and service for all Healthcare and Specialty Gas needs.
  • Monitor competition through research and by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, existing products, new products, delivery schedules, merchandising techniques, go to market strategies, etc.
  • Resolve customer concerns and/or complaints by thoroughly investigating issues/problems, identifying and developing solutions, preparing memos/reports, and making appropriate recommendations to management.
  • Keep management informed by maintaining and submitting activity and results reports (daily call reports, weekly work plans, along with monthly and annual territory analyses) as required.
  • Recommend continuous improvement suggestions including but not limited to processes, procedures, products, service and policy by assessing and evaluating results and staying in touch with competitive developments and through discussions with vendors. Manage existing accounts and monitor and manage all account renewals.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Pay $80k-85k plus commission

Required Length & Type of Experience:

  • A minimum of 4 years of prior outside business-to-business sales experience to include proven experience and success in solution-selling concepts and a demonstrated history of managing customers throughout a defined sales territory.
  • Industry experience and industrial sales experience preferred.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of all GPO’s, GPO contract and National Account Structure for GPO accounts.
  • Demonstrated relationship management & consultative selling aptitude with the ability to problem- solve and devise solutions for the customer.
  • Ability to target accounts and achieve results through an action plan.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with all levels and roles both within Airgas and outside the organization.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with a thorough understanding of financial accounting terms and principals including margin, profit, cost, and rate of return.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing; listens effectively and clarifies information as needed; works well with others in a cross-functional team environment across the organization knowing who to engage to achieve results. Uses candor and sensitivity in their dealings with others.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to include the ability to multi-task and effectively manage projects in a diverse organization.
  • Strong computer skill to include proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) as well as a working knowledge of SAP.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with effective organizational/time-management skills.
