Job Title: Human Resources Manager

Reports To: Director of Operations & Director of Human Resources

Location: Chicago, IL (100% On-Site)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support our division in Chicago. This role will manage a team of HR professionals and provide comprehensive HR support to one of our largest plants, which produces metal packaging for industries such as paints and chemicals. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of HR practices, manufacturing operations, and safety compliance, as well as the ability to navigate complex HR issues and regulations. The HR Manager will actively engage with employees at all levels of the organization and be an integral part of the plant’s leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a team of 3 direct reports: 2 HR Generalists and 1 HR Coordinator.
  • Manage all HR functions within the plant, including employee relations, talent management, workforce planning, and compliance.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers and leaders on HR matters, including performance management, conflict resolution, and best practices.
  • Stay up to date on HR laws and regulations, offering sound advice to Plant Managers and leadership to ensure compliance with legal requirements and company policies.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and compliance standards within the manufacturing environment. This includes conducting plant walk-throughs while wearing steel-toed shoes and PPE.
  • Actively engage with the plant workforce, building relationships and ensuring alignment with company culture and HR practices.
  • Address complex employee relations issues, involving investigation, resolution, and communication in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Oversee the recruitment and onboarding process, ensuring the plant has a strong and capable workforce.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Be available for urgent HR matters when not physically on-site, with flexibility to accommodate plant shift schedules.

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in human resources, with at least 2 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in employee relations, talent management, and workforce planning.
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience in managing HR teams and supporting leadership at the plant level.
  • In-depth understanding of manufacturing safety and compliance standards.
  • Ability to walk the plant floor, engage with employees, and ensure safety standards are met.
  • Must be open to being on-call for urgent HR issues outside of standard working hours.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
