Medela LLC is seeking a Product Development Engineer – Mechanical

You will be contributing to the vital research and development of products through design and development of medical devices and related products aligned to the Medela strategy.

  • Prepare design options for product realization using a variety of techniques including brainstorming, competitive product analysis, similar solution analysis, etc.
  • Identify performance, cost, quality, and timing trade-offs among alternatives
  • Based on the selected alternative, clearly establish and document product and performance requirements for product development and future technical use
  • Develop working models and prototypes to assist in selection of appropriate alternatives
  • Conforms to ISO, FDA and other regulatory standards by working with the applicable functional areas as needed



Medela's US-based manufacturing and development facility is headquartered in McHenry, Illinois .

This position requires an on-site presence in McHenry, IL three days a week .

Education/Experience Requirements: Product Development Engineer – Mechanical

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or related field required
  • Minimum three years’ experience in engineering required
  • Mechanical design, materials, analysis, and manufacturing experience required
  • Plastic part design, materials, analysis, and manufacture direct experience strongly preferred
  • Electro-mechanical design, analysis and manufacturing experience strongly preferred
  • Regulated environment experience required, Medical product experience strongly preferred
  • Six Sigma experience strongly preferred
  • Minimum one year job required CAD experience; Experience with Creo preferred
  • Ability to self-manage projects, i.e. tasks, resources, interfaces with external stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities
  • Experience working in an environment with global objectives
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, including occasional international travel
  • Must be able to read, understand and communicate in English
  • Apply principles of logical thinking to solve practical problems
