CAP Preceptor for NOV Cohort. Hospital Information Address: 800 W 5th Ave, Spokane, WA 99204 388 Bed Hospital Level 3 Trauma Center General Information Beds: 30 CAP 3 years minimum Patient Types the Travelers are Expected to Care For: (Neuro / Spine Total Joint) Neuro: CVA, seizure/epilepsy Spine: Laminectomies, Fusions, Discectomies, burr holes, shunts Ortho: Total joints (knees/hips) Trauma, sepsis, COPD, DVT, AKI Medical overflow Skills required: Cardiac rhythm interpretation (must sign off on EKG) will also be required to take a rhythm interpretation exam, EPIC experience CAP: Respiratory management (HFNC, BiPap, CPAP), tubes/drain management (hemovac, JP drains), ostomies, wound vacs, wound dressing, telemetry Patient Ratios: Primary nursing: 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights Team nursing: 2:7 on days and 2:8 on nights Support on Unit: 2-3 CNAs (1:10-15 ratio) Charge Nurse Centralized Telemetry Tech 24/7 Rapid Response Nurse (Stat/Resource Nurse) Stroke Coordinator Floating: Med/Onc (mostly medical), 7 Tower (Tele) but will only care for stable medical patients, Any unit to be a sitter, ED Holding (for stable medical patients) Floating Units (CAP): Tower 10 (30 beds) Surgical: Bariatric (Sleeve, Roux-en-Y), Gender Affirmation (male to female), GI/GU, ENT, Plastics (tissue expanders, panniculectomies) Ratio: 1:5-6 Specialty oncology surgeries (HIPEC, Whipple, Ivor Lewis) Ratio: 1:4-5 Tower 11 Medical-Oncology Medical: ETOH/IVDA, CHF, Trach, COPD, Pneumonia, CKD/AKI (Dialysis), long term antibiotics, pancreatitis Ratio: 1:5-6 Will not be required to administer chemotherapy Fast Past, High Acuity ED Holding (patients waiting for a bed) Other Specialty Areas If a candidate has a skillset outside of med/surg (PCU, ICU, Mother/Baby, etc.), may be floated to those specialty areas (if nurse is comfortable) Certifications: BLS, ACLS Charting System Equipment: EPIC - required Workday Rover (mobile charting) Telmediq (iPhone/texting) Alaris (IV/PCA Pumps) Pyxis (medication dispensing) Phillips Monitors Hill-Rom beds Kangaroo pumps SCDs Moxi (Robots) Virtual nurses Scheduling: Every other weekend, must be available to work 50% of weekends Shift times: 7-7:30 Holidays: 1-2 Holidays over the course of the holiday season Time-Off Requests: up to 7 days, but email manager for Holiday requests Orientation General hospital orientation 3 full shifts on the unit CAP will work in the numbers for 2-3 weeks to learn flow of unit before being paired with resident; will receive MHS preceptor training (virtual), CAP preceptor training (virtual) and a 3 hour care model class taught by Deaconess managers Traveler Telemetry Competency Required Required to be completed and passed prior to start. SimpliFi Compliance is responsible for grading this exam. Other notes Scrubs: Any Color Parking: Free-$10 depending on the lot Must fill out whiteboards, do and document hourly rounding, and give bedside report Saline Flushes considered medication. Do not leave at the bedside or in your scrub pocket When wasting medications, two-nurse verification is required. (Narcotics, Benzodiazepine, etc.) Documenting pain before and after giving pain medication (30 minutes for IV, 1 hour for oral) Program name:CAP
