General Summary:

The process engineer participates in program launch operations for new programs and creates and maintains the machining process parameters for all current programs. Take part in the setting of tool designs for both new and current programs. Participate in the machining divisions' continuous improvement initiatives using a defined methodology like Lean or Six Sigma.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set the standard for driving safety and encourage a culture where people don't get into accidents.
  • Engineering Program management of new product Launches
  • Work with APQP team members to develop timelines
  • Maintain timelines
  • Schedule and conduct launch management
  • Participate in all customers technical reviews and timeline discussions
  • Lead team actions to develop and maintain manufacturing processes. Projects may include all or part of the project's launch, early start-up, and mature production phases.
  • Initiates tooling, process, or design changes to improve product performance, quality, or manufacturing cost.
  • Demonstrates “hands-on” techniques and a willingness to cooperatively work with machine operators, supervisors, and leads to solve production problems.
  • Utilizes SPC; may lead or participate in process improvement efforts.
  • Actively participates in and conducts process reviews.
  • Supports manufacturing cost-estimating activities.
  • Coordinate technical and/or documentation issues by communicating often with various functional groups. Will communicate with customers and suppliers.
  • Works directly with employees or supervisors to resolve equipment, process, quality, efficiency, or tooling issues.
  • Directly or indirectly supports Plant MRB Disposition and Corrective Action activities.
  • Reviews customer specifications and recommends changes to improve manufacturability as required.
  • Works closely with Sales and Engineering to establish cost trade-offs.
  • Acts as project leader on routine process or machine development efforts as required.
  • Cycle time reduction and tool cost savings
  • Drive improvements in machine scrap reductions
  • Prepare detailed plans necessary to complete work on projects, tooling or work centers for activities spanning several weeks to months.
  • Develop work instructions

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

  • Must have mechanical and analytical ability, math skills, and knowledge of machining practices
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Troubleshooting skills related to machine and process issues
  • Knowledge of machining abilities of lathes, mills, broaching, grinding, and balancing machines
  • Knowledge of company products, competitor products, and supplier capability.
  • Ability to read and react to CMM reports
  • Relevant experience with AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, MS Suite, ERP systems and CMMS software.
  • Multitasks, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Ability to understand and implement PPAP, FMEA and Control Plans.
  • Ability to use advanced engineering techniques for problem resolution (FMEA, designed experiment, etc.)

Working Conditions:

  • The Process Engineer will reside in the office and on the production floor. Must be able to adhere to conditions of the plant.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and on their feet 50% on the production floor.
  • Must be able to move about inside the office and in the plant.
  • This position will operate a computer and other machinery in the plant.
  • This position may operate a vehicle when traveling to other facilities, customers, suppliers, etc.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, preferred.
  • Two to five years’ experience in manufacturing. Machining experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of program management system.
  • Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma Training a plus.
  • Background in Quality Systems a plus.
  • CNC programming skills, Fanuc controls preferred.
  • Fanuc robot experience is a plus.
  • Poke-yoke and mistake-proofing experience.
