The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) will administer medications with safety techniques and sound judgment under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.
JOB DUTIES:
QMAs will administer the following medications
Oral medications, including scheduled medications
PRN medications, only after authorization of nurse, then nurse will assess and document effectiveness
Inhalers
Nebulizer treatments, only if nurse completes lung assessment before and after and documents findings
Topical and rectal ointments
Nasal sprays and drops
Eye ointments and drops
Ear ointments and drops
Non-invasive treatments
Observes residents for drug reactions and reports any concerns to the nurse immediately
Monitors residents vital signs
Calculates medication dosages and stocks the medication cart
Documents what medications were given for the day on the medication administrator record (MAR) chart
Reports to the nurse on duty general and specific information pertaining to the response of the residents to their medications or treatments and any other pertinent or appropriate information
Reports to the nurse on duty for instructions before administering any PRN medication
Audits documentation to assure accurate, complete, and timely recording of medications and treatments
Safely lifts, moves, and transfers residents as required
Attends all mandatory meetings and in-services
Participates in a med pass audit at any time
Other duties as assigned by Director of Nursing or Nurse on duty
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have current, unencumbered state license and must be able to provide all necessary documentation.
