POSITION OVERVIEW Under general supervision of the Customer Service and Utility Billing Manager, the Customer Service Representative provides information and accurately answers questions pertaining to city utility accounts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Responsible for payment processing by posting customer payments accurately; balances totals and posts to correct transaction codes
- Maintains and reconciles cash drawer
- Processes checks, cash, money orders, and credit card transactions
- Completes clerical duties by documenting adjustments for penalty removal and payment correction
- Carries out various correspondence
- Notates and enters information pertaining to customer interactions
- Provides excellent customer service internally and externally
- Completes all customer interactions promptly and efficiently
- Answers routine and complex billing questions
- Responds to customer inquiries regarding leaks, sewer-averaging, special circumstances, and erroneous billing
- Interprets ordinances as pertains to the Utility Department
- Researches policies questioned by customers in order to provide accurate responses
- Processes work orders and files various documents
- Responds to large volume of phone calls pertaining to billing, city regulations and procedures, requests for new, final and/or transferring services and public inquiries
- Responsible for specific assigned tasks as needed for penalty processing, draft positing, generating cutoffs, returned mail, website updates as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or GED equivalent
2 years of Customer Service experience
Utility Billing experience preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position is primarily sedentary, requiring an individual to sit at a desk for long periods of time, working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
