Resident Engineer


Our esteemed client is a well-established engineering consulting firm based in the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area and has retained our services to identify a Resident Engineer  for a highly visible, long-term project based in San Francisco. With 23 successful years in business, this company provides civil engineering, environmental, and water resources engineering services along with construction management throughout California. This long-term project will be onsite in San Francisco and will collaborate closely with the construction management team at various sites throughout the city.


This role is a full-time onsite position based in San Francisco.

What you will do:

  • Oversees construction project for client in field office, studies, design, and office services during construction.
  • Manages the project construction contracts for the client as defined in the construction contract documents. Administers the construction contract, implements quality plans to assure all construction work is completed in conformance to the contract documents, implements environmental compliance requirements and procedures, manages schedules, costs, and change order’s, assists with public outreach efforts, and maintains all construction documentation and records. 
  • Oversees staff performing daily field inspections.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate daily record of construction site activity, inspection records, and produces required reports on progress, safety, quality, schedule, and budget status. 
  • Ability to review submittals including drawings, product data, samples, and additional items submitted by the contractor.
  • Prepare written documents (i.e., correspondence, proposals, reports, performance evaluations and other construction documents.)
  • Document construction process through daily reports; conduct weekly progress meeting and prepare meeting summaries; maintain project files and prepare change orders.
  • Prime point of contact between the Contractor and external stakeholders. 
  • Supervises and directs the performance of the inspector and ensures conformance to established policies and procedures for the management of the project. 
  • Responsible for all of the duties and responsibilities assigned to all members of the project team reporting to this position. 
  • Reviews and recommends for approval all change requests, Value Engineering Change Proposals (VECP) and Application for Payments. 
  • Determines and recommends when contractual action is necessary on the construction contract and elevates all such issues to the construction manager and the project manager approves schedule submittals, updates and revisions and prepares monthly assessments of project status. Supports and assists in the implementation of the Project Safety Approach. 
  • Also assists the Shutdown Coordinator in coordinating with the contractors to develop and implement project-specific system shutdown plans during construction. 
  • Ability to work independently.  Ability to perform duties in the construction field office and effectively make decisions concerning work in process and solving field problems.


Who you are:

  • BS in Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • 5 to 10+ years’ experience in construction management (non-residential), or related discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California, highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and ProCore.
  • Ability to anticipate issues and utilize a proactive approach to resolve.
  • Ability to perform duties in the construction field office and effectively make decisions concerning construction work in progress and solving field problems.
  • Ability to direct the efforts of subordinate inspectors while executing strong leadership skills.
  • Solid track record with client account management, relationship development, and supervision of field and office staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and staff.
  • Demonstrated Resident Engineer skills and the ability to lead and solve complex construction issues.


Compensation:

Final compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data. The compensation package has a base salary range of $177,000 - $200,000 plus bonus.
