Position Summary:
UmbraGroup is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to serve as technical lead on strategic electromechanical actuator projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and interpersonal skills and will bring a passion for new product innovation.
This position is located in our Saginaw, Michigan facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, analysis, testing and implementation of breakthrough linear and rotary actuation technologies
- Lead technical communication with customers, suppliers, and internal multidisciplinary engineering teams including mechanical, electrical, controls and software engineers
Understand and/or create system level requirements and flow down to sub-system level
Use system level thinking to optimize overall product performance and project objectives
- Design, conduct, and analyze laboratory testing of new products
Diagnose and correct anomalies and deficiencies in system behavior
Utilize curiosity, creativity, and technical skills in the invention of new products, features, and functions to fuel company growth
- Collaborate with our sister companies to share and implement best practices
- Advance UmbraGroup’s use of analytical tools and testing methods
- Mentor and train colleagues
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering; Master’s degree is a plus
- Minimum 5 years systems engineering experience
- Minimum 3 years electro-mechanical experience
- General knowledge of electrical, mechanical, controls, and software engineering
- Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to tailor to technical and non-technical audiences
- Must enjoy and be skilled in both analytic and hands-on problem solving
- Energetic and self-motivated, with good time management skills
- High degree of organization and accuracy in work details
- Team player willing to mentor and train less experienced colleagues
- Ability to travel up to 15%
- Due to ITAR regulations, must be a U.S. Person
Preferred:
- Previous Aerospace and/or Defense Experience
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards in a design and manufacturing environment
- MIL, SIL, and HIL test experience
Matlab/Simulink experience
CAN, IEEE 802.3 Ethernet, or other Aerospace and Defense vehicle communication protocol
- Basic knowledge of C, C++ programming language preferred
