If you share our determination to drive the transition to a low-carbon future, then this could be the job for you. We are currently seeking a Principal Riser Engineer reporting directly to the Delivery Manager, to join our team based in Houston, Texas.
Purpose:
- Provide deepwater riser engineering expertise in various types of deepwater risers, i.e., steel catenary risers, steel lazy wave risers, free standing hybrid risers, top tension risers, drilling risers, flexible risers, and umbilical.
- Independently prepare detailed deepwater riser calculations and perform the deepwater riser design and analysis, such as, riser wall thickness calculation, riser cathodic protection design, riser strength analysis, riser fatigue analysis (wave induced fatigue analysis, VIV fatigue analysis, VIM fatigue analysis), riser interference analysis, riser installation analysis.
Duties:
- Deep understand the basics of deepwater riser engineering.
- Perform deepwater riser strength analysis, riser fatigue analysis, riser interference analysis, and installation analysis according to riser design code and standards.
- Prepare calculations, reports, specifications, and help develop drawings associated with deepwater riser engineering work.
- Provide procurement support related to riser design and installation engineering, including aiding in the generation of material take-offs, cost estimates, scopes of work, and the provision of technical clarifications.
- Attend meetings as necessary to present analysis findings.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and, as necessary, to be reviewed by others for validity and soundness of conclusions and recommendations.
- Provide bid/tender engineering support related to riser design and installation engineering, if needed.
- Mentor graduate/junior riser engineer(s).
Requirements:
- MS and PhD in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Ocean Engineering or in other equitable engineering.
- 10+ years’ experience working for engineering contractors or installation contractors.
- Familiar with U.S. and international design codes and practices used for deepwater riser engineering.
- Strong knowledge of offshore production platforms, wave dynamics, and various deepwater riser systems.
- Abaqus finite-element software experience is mandatory.
- Familiar with OrcaFlex and Shear7 software. Python is a plus.
- Must be willing to learn new software or analysis methods as project needs arise.
- Must have good computer skills and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Some exposure to Mathcad software and AutoCAD is a plus.
- Must have good communication, writing, and presentation skills, and an excellent work ethic and work attitude; organizational skills and being a team player are a must.
- Must interpret, organize, execute, and eventually coordinates assignments.
