Job Description

Job Purpose

Assist in developing and maintaining all programs and procedures related to food safety, quality, and sanitation. Manage Quality Assurance and Sanitation departments, ensuring compliance with all customer, regulatory, and GFSI requirements. Provide support to the plant to help ensure production schedules are met and manufacturing goals are achieved.


Essential Functions:

  • Supervise daily activities of QA and Sanitation teams, including training, development, and employee relations.
  • Mentor teams on food safety, quality, and legality.
  • Manage shift planning and work assignments.
  • Oversee compliance with food safety programs, quality standards, and legal requirements.
  • Participate in relevant training programs to maintain high standards.


Quality Assurance

  • Oversee the inspection of incoming ingredients, ensuring compliance through random sampling and assessment.
  • Address out-of-specification products/materials by investigating and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Act as a technical liaison in the absence of the QA Manager, liaising with customers, vendors, and internal departments. Initiate and verify the resolution of quality complaint investigations.
  • Facilitate inspections, customer audits, and regulatory interactions for compliance.
  • Assist in maintaining the required certifications (e.g., organic, non-GMO, kosher).
  • Participate in new product development and commercialization.
  • Ensure accurate label and packaging applications during manufacturing.
  • Lead and participate in internal audits and mock recalls, ensuring adherence to quality policies and local regulations.


Sanitation

  • Ensure proper equipment and plant sanitation, efficient startups, and allergen cleaning validation.
  • Manage inventory levels for the Sanitation department within budget.
  • Develop and maintain master sanitation schedules.
  • Conduct audits to comply with FDA and GFSI standards.
  • Enforce safety programs and inspect work areas for hazards.
  • Provide pest control support and oversee corrective actions.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience will be considered
  • Food, Chemical, or related industry experience required
  • 3+ years’ Quality Experience: SQF preferred; HACCP, FSMA; sanitation experience is a big plus but not required.
  • 1+ years’ leadership experience
  • HACCP, PCQI certification is a big plus.
  • Availability: Must be open to occasional weekends and 2nd/3rd shifts.
