Sr. Analytic Chemist

Salisbury, NC - onsite

Job Description: The Sr. Analytical Chemist will support the development and introduction of synthesis and formulation processes at our North Carolina sites. This includes developing and validating analytical methods and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the analytical focal point for assigned business areas, managing workload with support from the analytical manager.
  • Provide analytical services, develop new methodologies, and offer technical solutions/advice.
  • Develop methods for complex matrices and blends, including full characterizations.
  • Troubleshoot production issues such as low yield, instability, or out-of-specification products.
  • Address customer complaints by identifying contaminants and investigating sources, ensuring due diligence.
  • Continuously improve analytical skills and capabilities through a detailed training plan.
  • Devise exploratory solutions and follow standard operating procedures.
  • Prioritize workload with internal customers and the Technical Manager, adapting to changing priorities.
  • Cross-train on a wide range of equipment and maintain analytical equipment.
  • Serve as safety representatives for specific laboratories, maintaining records, conducting risk assessments, and reporting accidents/near misses.
  • Search literature for synthetic methods, evaluate routes in the lab, and scale up to pilot and full-scale plants.
  • Improve existing product chemistries and processes.
  • Develop an understanding of chemical reactions during processes and apply chemical knowledge to practical problems.

Role Requirements:

ยท PhD required

  • Expertise in a wide range of analytical techniques, including method development and proficiency in at least two areas: chromatography, spectroscopy, thermal analysis, physical analysis, mass spectrometry, and microscopy.
  • Proficiency in wet analytical techniques such as titration, solids, salts, and activity.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentational).
  • Understanding of reaction mechanisms, kinetics, and basic chemical reaction principles.
  • Strong synthetic chemistry skills with creative and methodical thinking.
