About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ. Our Information Technology team is committed to providing a safe, secure, equitable, and engaging experience for all college students, faculty, and staff. The Senior System Administrator position is highly technical in nature. The position involves applying industry best practices to ensure reliability, uptime, redundancy, and security. Duties include hardware and software installation and upgrades, systems problem resolution, systems security, and planning and recommendations for system upgrades on a variety of virtual Windows and Linux operating system servers with an emphasis on Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Linux server products in a VMware environment. The position administers many enterprise-level applications such as Ellucian Colleague, Ellucian CRM-RECRUIT, Ellucian CRM-ADVISE, Ellucian Experience, Hyland Perceptive Content, Transact Campus ID, Transact Campus Commerce, Transact / S2 Door access, CourseDog's event scheduling, CourseDog's Curriculum Management, and Instructure CANVAS.
Where you will make an impact
  • Perform operating system upgrades / patches in the Windows and Red Hat Linux environments after developing an upgrade / patch maintenance plan and reviewing the plan with stakeholders.
  • Monitor system performance and propose software updates or parameter changes to enhance system performance; develop plans for testing, implementing, and measuring the results of system performance.
  • Research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly.
  • Maintain required operating system security on all servers.
  • Work with the Security Team to stay on top of vulnerability mitigation efforts and implement required changes via appropriate change control methods for the Enterprise Apps portfolio.
  • Document, implement and test a DR plan.
  • Work with hardware and software vendors' customer support service organizations to solve problems.
  • Able to prioritize a wide range of workloads with critical deadlines.
  • Be organized and pay attention to detail.
  • Make recommendations and execute on plans to move on-premises systems to cloud hosted or SaaS solutions.
  • Develop and document procedures and/or processes for team members.
  • Be able to provide status updates to Network Manger on a weekly basis.
  • Attend training sessions, read instructional manuals, and reads industry periodicals to maintain a current understanding of the various operating systems and maintained software.
  • Develop, Perform and Maintain Disaster Recovery technical plan for Unidata Database environment and all other associated ancillary systems associated to ensure business continuity for the ERP.
  • Manage integration between ERP and various other enterprise applications using various methods/platforms such as SFTP, API, Web and other relevant technologies.
  • Attend training sessions, read instructional manuals, and read industry periodicals to maintain a current understanding of the various operating systems and maintained software.
What you will bring
  • Five+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in managing Ellucian Colleague and Unidata M/V databases.
  • Experience in managing and maintaining enterprise level applications such as Transact, Perceptive Content and Canvas.
  • Knowledge of basic CIS controls, ITIL processes, Problem and Change Management, Capacity Planning and Project Management.
  • Proficiency in network and firewall configurations best practices to troubleshoot and effectively isolate issues and identify root cause of problems.
  • Knowledge of VMware Virtualization software. Knowledge of Linux Administration processes.
  • Functional understanding of Unix/Linux and RedHat in particular.
  • Deep knowledge of RHEL. Understanding of UNIX and PowerShell scripting.
  • Practical experience in testing and installing third party software products.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of administration of relational databases.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, end users and students.
  • Must perform upgrades and keep time-sensitive servers up after-hours and as needed.
