A prominent civil rights firm (police and jail/prison medical deliberate indifference and misconduct) actively seeking to hire a motivated problem-solver to join our team. We handle cases ranging from police excessive force including officer-involved shootings to jail assaults and prison and in-custody wrongful death and medical deliberate indifference cases.We strive to seek justice for our clients and are not afraid to go toe-to-toe against big government, if necessary. The client-centered firm and its employees are dynamic, focused, and proactive, striving for excellence in all they do. Our firm focuses on 4th Amendment Constitutional violations including excessive force, false arrest, and failure to provide medical care. We also litigate cases involving the 8th and 14th Amendments' deliberate indifference to a serious medical condition that has a large medical neglect component.We have proudly advocated for the improvement of inmate medical care by advocating for a lower and more feasible standard of proof in jail medical Deliberate Indifference case law. Our firm has been a significant catalyst at the 9th Federal Appellate Court by lowering the burden of proof in medical deliberate indifference cases.Immediate Opening We are seeking an associate attorney experienced in state and federal court litigation. The ideal candidate will have experience in litigation, excellent speaking, writing, analytical, and research skills, and an ability to work with minimal supervision.Responsibilities and Requirements: Draft, research, and prepare motions, including ex-parte motions and motions and oppositions to summary judgment motions.Argue motions before state and federal courts.Opportunity to work and argue in appellate court.Take and defend depositions depending on experience.Manage case-specific federal deadlines.Review police and investigative reports as well as jail medical records.Draft both federal and state complaints, and draft and respond to discovery requests.Formulate discovery strategies, research case law, and prepare legal memoranda.Conduct law and motion research on various constitutional issues.Experience with electronic filing in state and federal court preferred. Prior attorney and/or law clerk experience is required. Minimum of 3-5 years of law and motion experience; federal litigation experience is a plus.The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and writing skills, as well as great interpersonal and communication skills when contacting clients to follow up and communicate updates or case status.Salary: depending on experience.
