Summary The Attorney IV is an experienced trial or appeals attorney that handles the most serious cases in the office on a daily basis. This position is also responsible for supervising other attorneys and overseeing various units and special assignments in the office.
A criminal background check is required.
Essential Duties - Provide client representation in all matters before the Court of Common Pleas.
- Provide client representation at preliminary hearings.
- Responsible for handling appeals.
- Conduct major trials or appeals (including preparation and court time)
- Responsible for daily decision-making and input.
- Assist in developing and responding to policies.
- Assist with office administration, including the supervision and training of attorneys and other staff.
- Available to handle emergencies or questions as they come into the office.
- Handle pre-arrest investigations.
- Attend meetings with other agencies and community groups.
- Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience Qualifications / Requirements: - Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Six years of job-related experience.
- Member of the Pennsylvania Bar.
- Strong trial skills.
- Strong knowledge of family law and civil procedures.
- Strong knowledge of courtroom procedures.
- General knowledge of the law (statutes, court cases, rules and regulations).
- Strong understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedures and applicable statutes.
- Ability to make firm, unbiased decisions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Accurate and detail-oriented.
- Strong professional ethics.
- Twelve hours of continuing legal education is required annually.
- A valid driver's license is required.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience: - A minimum of five years of experience as a trial attorney.
- Expert status in one or more specialized areas of the law, such as grand jury, wiretaps, child abuse, psychiatric evidence, DNA, etc.
- Knowledge of investigative techniques, equipment, resources and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with guidelines, regulations, statutes and case law.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to confer with colleagues on legal issues.
- Exhibits sound and accurate judgement.
- Demonstrates integrity and honesty.
- General understanding of human resources guidelines.
- General knowledge and understanding of County of Chester policies and procedures.
