Summary
The purpose of this part-time position is to provide marketing and communications support for the Town of Chapel Hill's North-South Bus Rapid Transit (NSBRT) project. This position exists in an internal agency/client framework, reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing (agency director) and responsible to the Transit Department and NSBRT project team (sole client).
The Town of Chapel Hill is embarking on a transformational infrastructure project - and we need a creative storyteller to help us tell our community about it. The North-South Bus Rapid Transit (NSBRT) project is a few years from construction, but there's a lot of information to share right now. We're looking for someone who can:
  1. Translate complex ideas into clear messages
  2. Create compelling print and digital content
  3. Wrangle details and keep projects moving forward
  4. Work as part of a team and be self-directed

Essential Functions
Create and curate print and digital content
  • Create effective and engaging print materials, including brochures, reports, advertisements, etc.
  • Create effective and engaging digital content, including short videos, slide decks, webpages, and social media posts.
  • Continually assess and improve both print and digital content, based on results, best practices, and emerging trends.
Develop awareness campaigns for NSBRT project
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term awareness campaigns throughout the project life span
  • Effectively use a variety of marketing tactics and storytelling techniques to communicate project vision and impact
  • Continually assess and improve campaigns, based on results, best practices, and emerging trends.
Coordinate and monitor ad buys and media inquiries
  • Monitor both traditional and social media coverage for public sentiment, emerging issues, and engagement opportunities
  • Create deliverables for a variety of media buys, including radio spots, print ads, and written sponsored content
  • Assist with media inquiries, in close collaboration with the Town Media Relations Manager and NSBRT project staff
Positively contribute to the division and the organization
  • Collaborate with both internal marketing and communications staff in other Town departments and external marketing and communications staff from partner organizations
  • Maintain awareness of current trends and best practices for marketing and communications
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
  • 2-3 years experience in marketing, communications, content creation, graphic design or a similar role, preferably within a transportation or local government context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Expertise in using design software, social media platforms, content management systems.
  • Proficiency in photography and video editing and production
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in local government or a similar public sector environment.
  • Familiarity with public transit/transportation topics and issues
