Job Description
This position will provide legal representation and guidance for our company's operations, with a focus on ensuring regulatory compliance and managing financial credit risks related to our FERC-regulated natural gas pipeline assets.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of FERC regulations, natural gas pipeline compliance issues, and credit risk management in the energy sector. They will work closely with internal stakeholders, including compliance, finance, operations, and senior leadership, to develop, implement, and oversee regulatory and compliance strategies that align with our business goals.
Responsibilities
Advise on legal and regulatory compliance matters related to FERC regulations and natural gas pipeline operations.
Develop and implement strategies to manage FERC compliance, including tariff filings, rate cases, certificates, and other regulatory requirements.
Monitor and interpret changes in FERC policies, rulings, and enforcement trends, providing proactive guidance to ensure continued compliance.
Support credit risk management efforts, advising on financial credit terms, collateral requirements, and contract structures to mitigate credit exposure.
Collaborate with finance and risk management teams to assess and manage credit risk in commercial agreements with shippers, suppliers, and financial counterparties.
Oversee preparation, filing, and management of regulatory submissions, comments, and testimony with FERC and other relevant agencies.
Conduct internal compliance training and establish policies and procedures to ensure adherence to applicable regulations.
Liaise with external counsel and represent the company in regulatory proceedings, audits, and enforcement actions.
Support commercial negotiations and contract reviews, ensuring alignment with FERC and credit compliance requirements.
Qualifications
Law degree from an ABA accredited law school with excellent academic credentials. Must be a licensed to practice law in Nebraska or licensed in another state. Must be licensed in Nebraska within one year of start date.
Significant experience at a major law firm or corporation. Litigation experience preferred. Experience with FERC-regulated natural gas pipelines, energy compliance and credit risk management preferred but not required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Must be able to handle critical time constraints, priorities and deadlines. Must be available outside of normal working hours. Periodic travel for hearings, litigation, negotiations, etc.
Must be able to handle heavy workload, multiple project responsibilities, and continually changing and competing priorities.
