Purpose and Scope:

OVERVIEW

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Works under the direction of the assigned Exceptional Children and Health Services Lead SLP and

Manager. Delivers at a high level of competency speech/language therapy services under the supervision of a Speech-Language Pathologist.

1. Provide professionally appropriate services.
2. Abide by FERPA and HIPAA confidentiality.
3. Promote safe student access and participation with peers.
4. To assist the SLP with clerical duties and with the implementation of IEP, selecting, repairing, and presenting therapy materials effectively.
5. To maintain student progress documentation.
6. To use a variety of screening tools and protocols, as well as managing screenings and documentation.
7. To provide effective direct implementation of therapy objectives to students individually and in small groups.
8. To interact collaboratively with parents, students, supervisors, and school staff.
9. To develop schedules for student services that meet IEP services.
10. To modify and differentiate lessons to meet student needs and progress with guidance from the supervising SLP.
11. To develop and provide appropriate lessons/materials to ensure progress toward student IEP goals.
12. To develop low-tech AAC materials, as well as program augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and provide training and assistance regarding the devices to students, staff, and families.
13. To consult with the supervising SLP regarding student progress or when there are questions regarding alteration of student plan to increase progress.
14. Personnel must contact the principal of the assigned school(s) and the therapist supervisor if sick or absent from work.
15. Personnel must be available for orientation and training.
16. Personnel must be flexible for assignment changes.
17. Personnel will be able to serve multiple schools.
18. Therapists abide by professional ethics as outlined by ASHA.
19. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLP/A) must hold or be eligible for a Tennessee Department of Education license.

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelors Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Masters Degree=6 years plus required years of experience.
