Background:
Vectrona is seeking a versatile and highly skilled Technical Writer to join our team. As part of our dynamic organization, you will contribute to developing technical documentation for a diverse range of projects, including government services contracts, innovative technology solutions, and advanced R&D initiatives. This role provides an exciting opportunity to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on cutting-edge programs that enhance mission readiness and national security. You will help shape the narrative around emerging technologies like extended reality (XR) and AI-enabled systems, translating complex technical concepts into impactful deliverables. In this role, you will have the opportunity to support critical government and defense projects while also contributing to R&D proposal and quote development, technical reports, patent applications, and other deliverables across Vectrona’s capability set. Your work will directly support Vectrona’s mission to simplify complexity and deliver innovative solutions to our clients.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to gather technical information, clarify requirements, and ensure documentation aligns with both product features and client needs.
- Simplify Complex Concepts: Translate advanced technical processes, systems, and software features into clear, user-friendly content for technical and non-technical audiences, supporting both internal and client-facing deliverables.
- Support Proposal Development: Assist with drafting, editing, and finalizing RFP (Request for Proposal) and RFQ (Request for Quotation) responses, as well as other government and R&D proposals.
- Create and Maintain Documentation: Develop and update user manuals, technical guides, API documentation, knowledge base articles, release notes, R&D technical reports, and patent application materials, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and accessibility.
- Conduct Research: Stay informed about Vectrona’s technology capabilities, project
- requirements, and industry trends by reviewing technical specifications, user feedback, and competitor materials.
- Review and Edit Content: Proofread and edit documentation produced by other team members or departments, ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to company style guides and industry standards.
- Manage Documentation Projects: Prioritize and manage multiple documentation projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality materials across services and technology domains.
- Utilize AI Tools: Leverage AI tools, such as ChatGPT, to support research, analysis, content development, and streamlining documentation processes.
- Ensure Usability and Accessibility: Continuously assess documentation usability, incorporating user feedback and ensuring content is easy to navigate, search, and understand.
Preferred Education/Degree:
- A bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Additional coursework or certifications in technical writing, government contracting, or documentation tools is highly valued.
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Proven Experience: 3+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably within government contracting or defense, aerospace, or cybersecurity sectors. Demonstrated experience creating technical documentation for government clients, including user manuals, system specifications, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and compliance documentation, is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of technical concepts related to government contracts, including IT systems, software, security protocols, and regulatory compliance standards (e.g., NIST, DFARS, ITAR). Familiarity with the technical language, specifications, and methodologies commonly used in federal contracts is a plus.
- Writing and Editing Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading abilities, with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and adherence to government-specific documentation standards. Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content suitable for both government and contractor stakeholders.
- Documentation Tools: Proficiency with documentation tools commonly used in government contracting, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and Confluence. Familiarity with federal documentation systems and version control platforms is highly beneficial.
- Knowledge of Government Regulations: Solid understanding of government regulations, including FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation), DFARS (Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement), and other relevant compliance frameworks. Ability to ensure documentation meets regulatory standards and contractual obligations.
- Collaboration and Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to collaborate effectively with government officials, contractors, and internal teams. Experience in preparing and submitting deliverables in response to government RFPs (Requests for Proposals) or RFQs (Requests for Quotations) is a plus.
